Role description:
We are seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer/Senior Office Engineer, with 10 years of experience, to join our Water Division as part of our construction management team on a NYCDEP construction project in Yonkers, NY.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. As an Assistant Resident Engineer, you will utilize your experience and technical knowledge of municipal infrastructure, water and wastewater facilities and general building projects to successfully execute and manage construction under the supervision of the Construction Manager and Resident Engineer
Role accountabilities:
Leadership
- As an Assistant Resident Engineer you will manage the firm’s day-to-day construction oversight/Asst. Resident Engineering efforts on a major NYCDEP infrastructure upgrade contract. The Assistant Resident Engineer will be expected to assist the Construction Manager (CM) and/or Resident Engineer (RE) in managing the inspection staff and the delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with clients’ requirements. You will be expected to act as liaison to design staff and respond to Contractors’ RFI's and review shop drawings.
- The Assistant Resident Engineer will be responsible for record keeping, general correspondence, compiling and drafting of required reports and deliverables; this includes technical review of construction plans and specifications and project changes for constructability and practicality.
- Assist the RE in leading meetings and preparing meeting agendas and minutes. Part of this role is strong communication to effectively lead progress, project, safety, scheduling and other contract administration meetings with client, local agencies and the community. The ARE will also be responsible for supervising ARCADIS staff, including development of Professional Development plans, tracking career progress, mentoring, approving timesheets and training/development requests.
Site Supervision
- The ARE will assist CM and/or RE in managing overall site safety and permit condition compliance; this includes oversight of the contractor to monitor performance, schedule, overall responsiveness and effectiveness as it relates to the project and overall safety standards. It is expected that the ARE will exert influence over contractors to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, quality, etc. The ARE will also support the review, preparation and processing of contractor payments by our Project Controls staff.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Prior experience as an Office Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer for NYC projects.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
- Demonstrated commitment to providing a safe and healthful workplace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 years’ experience with at least 5 years of Assistant Resident Engineering or office engineering experience for NYCDEP or NYCDDC.
- Professional Engineer - New York (active)
- Active participation in regional or national professional associations.
- Strong relationships with NYCDEP personnel.
- Interest and ability to network, support proposals and contribute to the firm’s growth in the NYC construction market.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $165,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
