The Program Coordinator: Sports Programs and Aquatics/Safety Education is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of the intramural sports program, aquatics, and safety education programs. This position is responsible for developing student employees into student leaders through ongoing training, assessment, and development of student staff. This position is officed out of the ASU Polytechnic campus and serves as a member of the university-wide Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness team.

Essential Duties:
Intramural Sports Program Development and Implementation (45%)
Provide leadership for the Polytechnic campus intramural sports program, creating opportunities for students to connect, compete, and stay active.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate intramural sports officials and intramural leadership team.
Create sport league schedules, tournament brackets, and special one-day event tournaments.
Aquatics and Safety Education Programs (45%)
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Polytechnic campus aquatics and safety education program.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate lifeguards and safety education instructors.
Develop and implement aquatic programs, including swim lessons and special events.
Ensure risk management and emergency preparedness through regular in-service training and maintenance of staff certifications and incident records.
Summer Kids Camp Program (10%)
Support the day-to-day operations of the 8-week summer camp serving approximately 80 children per week and 25 camp counselors.
Assist with planning, logistics, and implementation to ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive camp experience.
General Duties
Oversee the inventory and maintenance of equipment for intramural sports, aquatics and safety education programming.
Lead assessment and evaluation processes to enhance program quality and participation.
Collaborate with university departments to host special events and programs.
Attend scheduled meetings, orientations, and staff development workshops.
Consistently enforce program and facility policies to maintain a safe environment.
Demonstrate flexibility, critical thinking, and independent problem-solving in a dynamic setting.
Provide exceptional customer service and thoughtful solutions that foster a welcoming and supportive environment for all participants.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and leadership staff.
Availability for occasional evenings and weekends is required
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Recreation, Leisure Studies, Sports Management, or a related field and at least one (1) year of professional experience.
Experience officiating sports and/or managing recreational sports leagues.
Demonstrated experience developing or supporting recreation or aquatics programs.
Experience supervising, training, and mentoring employees.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills for diverse audiences.
Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple projects effectively.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment for participants and staff.
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and/or Water Safety Instructor certification(s).
