Continuous Improvement Technician

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Continuous Improvement Technician is a key contributor to operational excellence within a fast-paced, high-volume automotive production environment. This role leverages Lean Six Sigma methodologies to identify and implement process improvements that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. The technician collaborates closely with production, maintenance, quality, and logistics teams to drive sustainable improvements across the shop floor and support functions.
This position requires strong project management, analytical, and leadership skills to plan, execute, and sustain continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen events, root cause analysis, and standard work development.
JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify and prioritize opportunities for process optimization, waste elimination, and cost reduction specific to manufacturing operations.
- Facilitate and lead continuous improvement events (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, SMED) focused on production line efficiency, quality assurance, and throughput.
- Coach and train cross-functional teams—including operators, team leads, and supervisors—on Lean Six Sigma tools and problem-solving techniques.
- Collaborate with departments such as Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve production bottlenecks and improve workflow.
- Analyze production data (e.g., scrap rates, cycle times, downtime) to uncover trends and root causes of inefficiencies.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and visual management tools to support process consistency.
- Drive change management by engaging frontline employees and leadership in improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of implemented solutions using KPIs and performance metrics.
- Support compliance with automotive industry standards (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 9001) through process documentation and audit readiness.
- Utilize digital tools and manufacturing software (e.g., MES, ERP) to track and analyze improvement activities.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
- Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the automotive sector.
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Yellow Belt or higher)
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Minitab, Power BI) and familiarity with automotive production systems.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented, high-pressure environment.
