Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Hospice of Baton Rouge is seeking a skilled Full-Time Staff Accountant to support its day-to-day financial operations. This person will be responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, maintaining financial record, and supporting the month-end and year-end close processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and motivated to contribute to the success of a mission-driven organization..

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the month-end closing of accounting records in order to provide timely financial statements.
  • Prepare and input monthly journal entries and calculate depreciation.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain daily cash collection spreadsheets and monitor cash activity for all entities.
  • Independently reconcile balance sheet accounts and maintain accurate backup documentation.
  • Process accounts payable and maintain vendor invoice records.
  • Assist with audit preparation, tax return documentation, and budget variance analysis.
  • Independently perform bank statement reconciliations of cash and investment accounts and reconcile other GL accounts.
  • Maintain and organize financial records, both electronic and physical.
  • Perform special projects and other accounting duties as assigned by the Controller or CEO

Qualifications


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of accounting experience.

Special Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles is necessary.

  • Working knowledge of Great Plains accounting software and Microsoft Word and Excel programs.

  • Should be familiar with General Ledger accounting and financial statement preparation.
