Job Summary

A Data Center Technician II will take responsibility for the installation of connectivity solutions. The Technician II will work with multiple aspects of the cable installation process including Inside Plant (ISP), rack and stack, patching, pathway construction, rough-in, routing, cable terminations, labeling, and grounding. This employee may be assigned to train Technicians I and Installers to complete all the tasks and responsibilities of their positions with the goal of completing tasks with a high degree of quality and efficiency, while practicing professionalism for optimal job performance.

Responsibilities

  • Installation of structured cabling systems including all aspects of the installation process: ISP, Rack & Stack, Patching, Fusion Splicing and Testing
  • Reads and interprets all floor plans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets
  • Properly sets up a variety of copper and fiber testers
  • Performs system testing and troubleshooting as required
  • Terminates, labels, tests, and troubleshoots optical fiber and copper installations
  • Adequately train Technicians and Installers to complete all the tasks and responsibilities of their positions
  • Oversee and lead job site organization and basic housekeeping maintenance
  • Proactively complete all paperwork accurately and on time specifically: timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and others as required
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Maintain satisfactory compliance with customer security requirements
  • Excel in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting
  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook
  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ data cabling experience within the data center space
  • Must have the ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables. Strong understanding of low voltage infrastructure and related services
  • Ability to understand complex wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Finger & wrist dexterity & hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to work from heights such as man lifts, scissor lifts & roof tops utilizing proper fall protection
  • Ability to use small hand tools
  • Ability to use power tools
  • Climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., and drive a vehicle

 

Working Conditions

  • Job is usually performed in indoors within enclosed data center environments
  • Ability to accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from immediate district office area based on client needs, business needs and project scope
  • Exposure to noisy conditions
  • General hours of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. But ability to provide support during and outside regular business hours is required
  • Must be able to work in the United States
