Job Summary
The Instrument & Controls (I&C) Engineering Supervisor reports to the Facilities Engineering Manager and supervises a team of I&C Engineers within the Freeport LNG Engineering Team. This role provides organization and technical leadership. In addition, the position acts as the subject matter expert for instrumentation, equipment controls and valve/actuator assemblies to allow for safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The position is ultimately accountable for specifying instrumentation and equipment controls to support proper operation of the equipment and the facility.
The I&C Supervisor partners closely with the Operations, Maintenance and Projects teams to troubleshoot hardware and software issues, to provide technical support and ensure compliance with corporate standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements. The role also acts as the Technical Authority for instrumentation and controls design reviews, Management of Change (MOC) processes, and development of sustainable processes/procedures to sustain safe and reliable operations.
Location/Travel Information:
This position is currently based in Freeport, TX, with plans to relocate to our headquarters in Downtown Houston in Q2 2026. It will also require frequent travel to company facilities in Freeport and other off-site locations as needed. This position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license at all times in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and coach a team of I&C Engineers. This includes overseeing both Senior and Junior Engineers to ensure technical accuracy and professional development.
- Provide technical guidance, set priorities, and support professional development.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for instrumentation, PLC, valve and actuator assemblies, fire & gas, and related control systems.
- Oversee development and review of maintenance procedures for instrumentation and equipment controls.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) regarding loss production event investigations related to I&C.
- Lead the alarm management process which includes interfacing with operations and process engineering to provide a healthy alarm management program.
- Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and Process Hazard Analysis reviews.
- Define, review, and approve instrumentation and equipment control scope for large capital, MOC, and small cap/brownfield projects.
- Provide technical oversight for deliverables such as instrument specifications, automation and valve/actuator design.
- Approve detailed instrument/control design drawings and specification sheets.
- Resolve instrumentation and design issues identified during operation and post-startup.
- Support Turnaround preparation and execution to deliver a safe and reliable outcome.

- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office and CMMS (SAP PM or equivalent).
- Familiarity with control system cybersecurity standards.

- Experience with on Honeywell Experion, Safety Manager and various PLCs or equivalent Safety and distributed control systems.

HSE Roles and Responsibilities
Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
