Position Summary
The Chief of Police serves as the top law enforcement official in the Borough, responsible for overseeing all operations of the Lansdale Police Department. This includes strategic planning, personnel management, budgeting, community relations, and ensuring the safety and security of residents, business owners, and visitors.
The ability to work cooperatively with elected officials, municipal administration, a diverse group of citizens, and civic leaders is required. The Chief of Police is expected to maintain a visible presence within the community and represent a solid partnership between municipal government and its citizens.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of police operations, administration, and personnel
- Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives
- Foster strong relationships with community members, local organizations, and government agencies
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development of officers
- Prepare and manage the department’s annual budget
- Promote transparency, accountability, and ethical policing practices
- Maintain accreditation requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience and supervisory experience at a Sergeant or higher level within a similar or larger-sized department.
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field or more than 20 years of progressive leadership and education in law enforcement required.
- Graduation from the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the Southern Police Institute, or other recognized and equivalent law enforcement training is preferred.
- Pennsylvania Act 120 Certification required
- Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
- Experience with community policing, modern law enforcement technologies, and data-driven strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively with elected officials, staff, and the public
