General Definition of Work

The transportation operations specialist, under general supervision, provides financial and business process support to the transportation department.  Position is solution-driven and customer-focused, monitoring workflow processes and organizing data and documentation.  Employee performs professional level work to carry out the Board of Education policies and procedures under the director of the executive director of transportation.

NC 12 Salary Non-Certified Schedule/Full-time, 12 months

Executive Director of Transportation or designee

 

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

 

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Coordinate, administer, and monitor transportation contracts, contract amendments and agreements; pre-qualify vendors/contractors
  • Implement department purchasing and financial processes
  • Obtain, track, and maintain all required contractor documentation, permits, credentials, and insurance certificates
  • Initiate, receive, and review quotes, bids, and contract awards; place related orders and confirm related receipts
  • Reconcile invoices and vendor statements; ensure proper payment to vendor
  • Develop and monitor department performance and trend reporting
  • Collaborate to coordinate training on student discipline and control on school buses
  • Collaborate to ensure qualified driver candidates are properly endorsed and ready for transportation job and area assignment
  • Collaborate with human resources and finance to maintain an accurate position control allotments  for the transportation department
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of reported unsafe driving, bus stops and/or unsafe movements by bus drivers to include speeding, unsafe conditions, and improper use of bus equipment
  • Research, recommend and implement approved technology; provide required training and ongoing maintenance for product and/or process
  • Work with vendors/contracted services to provide logistical support for students and maintain a database with current information
  • Work directly with McKinney-Vento (MCV) liaisons to communicate processes, bus information and technical support
  • Coordinate route and stop change notifications with all stakeholders including, but not limited to, families, schools, management, and bus drivers to ensure successful implementation
  • Prepare and maintain required reports and records including, but not limited to, route sheets, and route/stop change documentation, while ensuring privacy confidentiality statutes compliance
  • Document and provide relevant statistics and related information regarding students’ transportation services provided
  • Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
  • Facilitate meetings/training and attend other related meetings as required
  • Perform related work as assigned or required
