About the Department
Colonial Behavioral Health provides opportunities for recovery to individuals and their family members in the areas of mental illness, substance use disorder, and developmental disabilities. Colonial Behavioral Health serves the citizens of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, and York County.
We are currently recruiting for a Peer Recovery Specialist- Behavioral Health Court position in the agency’s Adult Outpatient Services Department. This position requires an individual with lived experience of mental health and/or substance use challenges. The position will provide support to individuals navigating the criminal justice system due to behavioral health issues; offer guidance, mentorship, and advocacy, helping individuals connect with resources and build recovery skills. This position is crucial in promoting successful outcomes for individuals in behavioral health court, reducing relapses, and fostering a sense of hope and empowerment.

Minimum Qualifications
Work Schedule: Availability: Monday -Friday; Hours vary based on program needs
Other Qualifications
- Ability to positively interact with persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders
- Ability to navigate resources to include resources relevant to recovery and well being
- Experience with navigating the justice system preferred
- At least two years of psychiatric stability and/or sobriety and completion of peer based recovery specialized training required
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- High School Diploma or GED
