Position Summary/Purpose: Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) , the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a school setting provides essential support to the nursing staff in delivering high-quality and compassionate care to students with diverse healthcare needs. The CNA assists in meeting the physical, emotional, and social needs of students by performing delegated tasks related to personal care, daily living activities, and basic health monitoring.

Role and Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) : Student health and hygiene needs as required, including administering basic first aid, diapering, toileting, dressing, feeding and mobility (transfers)
- Accurately measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation
- Monitor students for any changes in their physical, mental or emotional status and properly communicate, interact, and report these observations to the nursing staff.
- Assist with repositioning students to prevent pressure ulcers and provide basic skin care as directed.
- Provide a supportive and empathetic presence, answering basic questions, and relaying concerns to the nursing staff
- Attend staff, team and/or IEP meetings as needed
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and assist with health compliance
- Maintain a positive attitude, being punctual, and adhering to ethical standards
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations appropriately to meet job expectations
- Collaborating and communicating clearly with other healthcare professionals, employee’s supervisor, the principal, and or the superintendent
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee’s supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent

- Seizure Trained
- Experience working with mixed-age groups in a school setting
- Compassionate individual with strong communication skills, the ability to follow directions, and a commitment to student safety
- Knowledge of school, policies, and procedures
- Evidence of strong organizational skills

- Be exact or highly accurate
- Ability to provide safe student transfer
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- As a multi-language district, we always prefer staff who are bilingual but it’s not required for this position
Qualifications and Education Requirements: Graduate of an Illinois Certified Nursing Assistant Program or Certified Medical Assistant Program from an accredited educational institution. Holds and maintains current CPR/AED certification
Working conditions / Environment: Physical Demands: mobility within the instructional area and throughout the school facility, visual acuity close/distance/depth perception, hearing to receive information, verbal to exchange information. Physical demands often include walking, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, reaching forward, lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling.
Environmental Conditions: indoor climate controlled school environment. May include being outdoors for extended periods of time throughout the year.
