The Assistant Plant Superintendent – Coil Fabrication is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive work atmosphere, while directing and organizing the daily work of the individuals and/or teams they are assigned.  This position is directly responsible for productivity, efficiency, quality/workmanship, and the safety and well-being of the members of their team. Assistant Plant Superintendent – Coil Fabrication develops and mentors leaders so they can be self-sufficient when making decisions within their own department and for future advancement. Assistant Plant Superintendent – Coil Fabrication will coach, and coordinate activities of workers engaged in all phases of plant production while executing company plans and achieving production goals. This position is based at Evapco’s Lake View, IA facility and will report to the Plant Superintendent.  

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • 3 or more years of manufacturing related supervisory experience required
  • Four-year degree in a relatable field of study or experience equivalent to a four-year degree is preferred.
  • Demonstratable knowledge base of industrial refrigeration and HVAC equipment and related fabrication is preferred.
  • Demonstratable knowledge base of ASME related welding and brazing standards associated with refrigeration equipment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written is required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Advanced user knowledge of SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure safety, production, and quality meet specifications.
  • Provide direction as required to subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
  • Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
  • Has full authority for personnel performance interactions, and recommendation and advisor role related to direct hiring & termination of employment.
  • Create a positive mental and physical working environment.
  • Prepares operation schedules and reports
  • Meets the productivity/efficiency, quality, safety, and 5S goals set by Production Management.
  • Meets all customer commitments through the production of on-time shipments, efficient and high-quality products, and service.
  • Ensures proper execution of the Production Schedule.
  • Recommends and adjusts department working hours on a daily and weekly basis when workloads require.
  • As directed by Production Management, maintains budgetary expense control in areas of labor costs, shop supplies, tooling, raw materials, and material scrap.
  • Provides direction and assists the team in problem solving as required to subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
  • Ensures that project and department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
  • Monitors and reports metrics including efficiency, manpower, quality issues, safety issues, etc.
  • Directs training and coaches’ employees in areas of improved productivity, quality, employee safety, and problem solving, identifying bottlenecks and constraints in the work processes, equipment operation, and assembly techniques.
  • Maintains positive, cheerful, and professional behavior daily.
  • Continuously improve processes by participating/leading Kaizen events and process-focused planning.
  • Initiates and writes performance reviews for direct reports and reviews those of assigned production personnel. Makes recommendations to Production Management regarding performance designations for direct reports.
  • Supervises and motivates department supervisors to the highest possible level of achievement.
  • Addresses and advises on personnel issues in collaboration with People Operations and department supervisors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
