The Post

The post will include:

  • Securing the continuous development, improvement, efficiency and success of the Department and Council as a whole.
  • Providing expert legal advice to the council, its members and officers. 
  • Leading on the development, planning and delivery of a high profile professional service, focussing on key Council priorities.
  • Having overall responsibility for Commercial  (Including but not necessarily limited to) Property, Planning Contracts and Regeneration with an emphasis on local government and administration law.
  • Representing and acting on behalf of Brent Council at meetings of key national and local government bodies.
  • Managing a team of professional staff within the team to ensure the delivery of a high quality legal service and to contribute to the management of legal services.
  • Contributing to and co-ordinate the Legal Services business planning and work programming activities and effective integration of the service development and budget planning processes.
  • Holding responsibilities for a Budget of around £2.m and to keep spend on external legal services to a minimum, responsible for effective performance of external lawyers.   
     
The Person

The post is for a lawyer who is looking for the next step in their legal career and really wants to come on board to make a difference within Legal Services. The postholder will lead the commercial arm of the Service – The expectation is that the postholder will build on the award winning success of the Service and undertake the requirements of the job description.

The Postholder is expected to have experience at a Senior Leadership level and have proven experience of working collaboratively to help supervise and run a large team in a complex organisation
