The Position
The City of Maple Grove Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a Parkkeeper. As a parkkeeper, you are responsible for maintaining and enhancing the city's award-winning parks, grounds, and facilities. Hours: Thursday-Monday 6:30 AM - 3 PM
Position Duties
- Maintains irrigation systems within the park system.
- Maintains and operates outdoor ice refrigeration system.
- Maintains and operates splash pads and other water features.
- Operates light equipment including mowers, aerators, snow removers, light trucks, and ice resurface equipment.
- Operates gas powered hand tools including string trimmers, leaf blowers, chain saws, and power washers.
- Installs, maintains, floods ice rinks and removes snow from trails, sidewalks and parking lots.
- Complies with safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Maintains lawns, artificial turf, trees, shrubs and plant areas.
- Maintains and completes asphalt patching on park trails.
- Prepares ground for seed, sod and plantings; mulches and weeds, shrubs and perennials.
- Creates and places orders with vendors and suppliers for materials and services.
- Maintains and stripes athletic fields and courts; maintains and provides custodial services for recreational buildings and grounds.
- Removes and disposes of diseased trees, shrubs, plants and other debris within city regulation; prunes and transplants trees.
- Installation and maintenance of playground equipment.
- Maintains gardens; planting, weeding and mulching.
- Performs herbicide application to park areas.
- Prepares ground; forms and pours concrete.
- Collect and dispose of garbage in various parks and buildings.
- Performs routine park and building maintenance.
- Assists with customer service in support of other park staff.
- Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance, including seeding, sodding and fertilizing.
- First aid and applicable safety precautions.
- Operation of tools and equipment.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
- Operate a variety of motorized vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform strenuous work under extreme weather conditions.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam.
Minimum Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Need to have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related field.
- Minnesota Driver’s License is required and must have or obtain a Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit within 30 days from hire date, and the actual MN CDL license must be obtained within two months from date of hire.
Nice to have:
- Completion of a degree program in a related field
- Park maintenance experience in a municipal setting is desired.
- Forestry training or experience is desired.
- Pool Operator, Minnesota State Pesticide Applicator, Minnesota Shade Tree Inspector, Certified Playground Inspector, and Low Voltage Certifications are desired.

Environmental Conditions:
Field environment; exposure to inclement weather conditions; hazards associated with operating motorized equipment or vehicles, noise, and may have exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals.
Physical Conditions:
Physical ability necessary to bend, stoop, twist, turn, kneel, lift and stand for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; must be able to operate assigned equipment.
