For over 50 years, the Company and its predecessors have owned and operated a magnesia mine and processing plant located in Gabbs, Nevada that will continue to offer the only domestically mined source of magnesia ore in the United States well into the future.

 

Our Giles Chemical Division is the largest producer of magnesium sulfate, commonly known as Epsom Salt, in North America. Premier Magnesia and Giles Chemical are your essential magnesia mineral source, assuring consistent quality, technical expertise, and long-term reliable supply.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the safe execution of maintenance and reliability at the Gabbs mine. Oversee the implementation and direction of industry best practice and processes leading the facility to a World Class Operation. This position is a critical leadership role which requires the ability to lead and maintain a solid safety and MSHA record. This role is part of the site Leadership team and will need to represent all decisions and direction the team makes together. This role must be able to work collaboratively with others to include their team.

Qualifications


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the entire Maintenance Department to ensure safe and efficient results.
    • Upper Shop – Fixed Equipment
    • Lower Shop – Mobile Equipment
    • Electrical Shop
  • Develop metrics to evaluate maintenance, reliability, and project effectiveness.
  • Oversee the coordination of maintenance and project related contractor activities.
  • Implement a mechanical and electrical training program.
  • Oversee all record keeping regarding maintenance, projects, reliability, and safety.  
  • Operate within all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure effective, timely and professional interactions with employees, contractors and the management team on all maintenance services provided.
  • Ensure effective turnover of repaired/installed equipment to operations.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with all stakeholders including vendors.
  • Effectively lead and participate in short- and long-term strategic planning initiatives.
  • Hold direct reports and department members accountable to safe and productive work practices as outlined within Company standards and procedures.
  • Manage departmental budgets to ensure compliance with organizational and strategic expenditure requirements.
  • Review capital improvement plans and make recommendations; evaluate infrastructure, facilities, and operating systems for repair and maintenance.
  • Review and approve job expense reports, cost sheets and inventories.
  • Continuously look for innovative solutions that can be utilized on projects.
  • Ensure deployment of key initiatives and communication of relevant messages to all maintenance crews at site
  • Provide employees with a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring the provision of safe systems of work; safe work procedures; adequate training and instruction; competent supervision.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years in a Maintenance General Foreman level or higher experience in mining industry
  • 3+ years’ experience in compiling and/or managing maintenance budgets.
  • 2+ years management of the maintenance scheduling and workflow function
  • Experience managing or supervising an equipment reliability program.
  • Verifiable strong safety record.
  • Proven ability to adapt information and communication style to the audience.
  • Familiar with MSHA regulations.
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license.

  • Work will take place in various types of manufacturing environments as well as in outdoor settings.
  • Prolonged standing, climbing, pulling and lifting of heavy objects may be included in the job tasks.
  • Must be able to lift, pull and push at least 50lbs.
  • Will work on very uneven surfaces which will have rock and other debris in the area.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE to include Steele toed boots, safety glasses and hard hat always.
