POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance Director is responsible for the overall operations of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op Finance department. This position will manage the personnel and processes of the department to ensure consistency in general management practices, adherence to labor guidelines, and administration of policies and procedures. The position will be responsible for financial operations and accounting functions; short to long-term financial planning, maintaining liability and D&O insurance, banking relations, preparation of financials, department expenses, productivity, cleanliness, vendor relations and general functionality. The Finance Director works closely with the General Manager and members of the Strategic Leadership Team, to develop and implement strategic goals to uphold and honor the values of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and the cooperative identity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Uphold all Co-op policies, procedures and expectations.
Department Operations
- Ensures the Finance Team operates effectively, efficiently and guarantees performance standards are met.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates procedures and makes adjustments as needed, which includes financial policies and control measures, cash flow monitoring, forecasting and reporting procedures, general ledger maintenance and other financial oversight and functions.
- Oversees short and long-term financial planning processes including but not limited to: preparation and presentation of the annual operating and capital budgets, analysis of financial impacts of long-term planning and project pro formas.
- Develops, implements and maintains accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a range of activities including financial accounting and reporting, cash accountability and other areas.
- Oversees annual insurance renewal process and ensures appropriate coverage is maintained at all times.
- Oversees ongoing banking relationships for maximum efficiency.
- Oversees preparation of monthly, quarterly and year-to-date financials, analyzes and reports to Management other appropriate personnel.
- Develops cash flow forecasting and maintains a long term cash forecast. manages cash flow controls and reporting
- Oversees the external audit, reviews and analyzes results and recommends for approval the audited financial statements.
- Prepares and presents financial sections of the annual report.
- Deals with suppliers concerning terms of payment, credits, discounts, and any contract negotiations.
- Monitors co-op investments for risk and return.
- Oversees bank reconciliation and ensures payroll is executed according to standards and best practices.
- Conducts proformas, forecasting and management of real estate investments.
Managerial Duties
- Establishes clear expectations for direct reports with a means to hold each other accountable to ensure expectations are met and offers support to meet expectations.
- Interviews and hires employees according to Co-op procedures.
- Establishes procedures to ensure proper administration of department programs.
- Conducts regular performance evaluations and creates training and development opportunities that enhance the employee’s abilities and builds upon their skills, knowledge and abilities
- Supervises work performance and conduct of personnel and upholds Sacramento Natural Foods Coop’s performance management practices of offering progressive corrective action and staff recognition as needed and in accordance with Co-op policies, procedures, labor and legal guidelines.
- Facilitates regular team and/or department meetings.
- Models behaviors that support the values of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op, through supportive and participatory leadership qualities, promoting cooperative team building and motivating staff to achieve goals.
Safety and Security
- Ensures that all department personnel learn and use safe practices per Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op’s Accident Prevention Program and addresses safety and security concerns promptly.
- Supports the Co-op’s security and safety protocols and establishes strong departmental control measures.
- Maintains equipment in working order; researches and recommends equipment repair and replacement options as needed.
Other Duties
- Models supportive and participatory leadership qualities to promote team building.
- Attends meetings and events as needed.
- Maintain working knowledge of the work duties of direct reports.
- Write and present financial narratives for both internal and external audiences.
- Supports the values of the cooperative principles in their daily work.
- Assumes other responsibilities and special initiatives, performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
- Keep General Manager informed of any problems and/or suggestions.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

Required Essential Skills and Experience
- 5+ years experience working at the senior management level in a finance department.
- Proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting and all pertinent rules, regulations, and local, state, and federal laws including GAAP, SEC, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
- MBA, CMA, CPA or related degree or comparable experience.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrated superior oral and written communication ability and able to work with diverse communities.
- Experience in long-range planning, and developing budget lines.
- Solid understanding of business cycles
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to prioritize projects and tasks to meet the needs of the Co-op.
- Ability to work productively and independently with little to no supervision.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and GL software.
- Proven ability to set and achieve department and organizational goals.
- Desire to determine, foster and develop the best qualities and contributions of department personnel.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and/or experience in natural foods and/or cooperative models.
- Familiarity with labor relations and union contracts.
- Experience handling real estate investments.
- IT knowledge or experience.
- Public Speaking experience.
