The Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs serves as the chief curriculum officer for the School and provides leadership in advancing teaching and learning in the doctor of pharmacy curriculum. The Assistant Dean serves as part of the School’s leadership team and regularly participates in high-level discussions regarding operations, strategy, and vision for the School.

In addition, the Assistant Dean will fulfill faculty responsibilities in teaching, service, and scholarship with a distribution of effort (0.25 FTE) proportionate with administrative responsibilities in the School of Pharmacy. The Assistant Dean will report to the Assistant Dean, Faculty Affairs for those responsibilities.

Administrative Duties and Responsibilities (0.75 FTE):

  • Oversee administration of the doctor of pharmacy curriculum

  • Facilitate implementation of all curricular changes in the doctor of pharmacy curriculum

  • Serve as the primary lead from the School to University offices for curricular matters

  • Develop and update policies and procedures related to curriculum

  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean, Experiential Education, Assistant Dean, Faculty Affairs, Directors and Team Leaders to plan and carry out curricular and co-curricular activities

  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean, Students, on student progress, student success and student feedback about the doctor of pharmacy program through leading the Curriculum Council

  • Collaborate across Administrators and offices to utilize data to connect the program from admissions through matriculation for predictors and indicators of success

  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean, Assessment and Accreditation to guide continuous quality improvement in the doctor of pharmacy curriculum that meets/exceeds ACPE accreditation standards 

  • Execute budget management and usage of program funds to execute the curriculum in a fiscally responsible manner

  • Serve as a member of the School’s Executive Committee

  • Serve as an ex-officio member on the Assessment and Curriculum Committees 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean

Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree and/or PhD in a pharmacy related area

Experience:

  • Licensed pharmacist or eligible for licensure in North Carolina

  • At least five years of faculty experience at an ACPE accredited school/college of pharmacy

  • Previous curriculum oversight (e.g. chairing curriculum committee) preferred

Key Skills and Characteristics:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to guide and mentor faculty, staff and students

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to represent WUSOP to internal and external partners

  • Strong commitment to this position, the profession of pharmacy and advancing pharmacy education
