FLSA STATUS: non-exempt, hourly, (unpaid for college credit)
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid: remote and on-site at Great Hearts Academies)
Hours: 15–20 hours per week
Start Date: January 12, 2025
Compensation: Unpaid (for academic credit)
Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University
The Great Hearts America Creative Team is seeking talented and motivated student interns to join us for the Spring 2026 semester. Our team serves as the storytelling hub of the Great Hearts network, creating engaging multimedia content that celebrates our students, teachers, and communities.
Each internship offers hands-on experience in media production, storytelling, and creative strategy, ideal for students eager to build their portfolios while earning academic credit. If selected for an interview, applicants will be asked to provide a portfolio of previous work in advance.
The Content Creator Intern will contribute to Great Hearts’ digital storytelling through writing, video, and design. This intern will be responsible for producing feature stories, coordinating content across digital platforms, and helping shape the visual and narrative identity of our brand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write articles and feature stories for Great Hearts websites and digital platforms
- Research, plan, and organize story ideas highlighting students, faculty, and community events
- Shoot and edit video content for online publication
- Create visual graphics to support stories and digital campaigns
- Collaborate with the Creative Team to develop multimedia packages that align with Great Hearts’ mission and tone
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong writing and storytelling abilities
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign) or equivalent software
- Experience with video production and editing
- Basic graphic design and layout skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to take creative direction
Learning Outcomes:
- Build a professional portfolio of written and multimedia content
- Gain experience in digital content strategy and production workflows
- Develop storytelling skills that bridge journalism, marketing, and education
Additional Requirements
Type of fingerprint clearance: Must be able to pass fingerprint background clearance.
Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card.
Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
Travel required: May need to travel locally to the various academies within the Phoenix metro area.
