Description

Position Summary:   The Bench Captain plays a leadership role in overseeing the assembly team at an assigned workbench.  This position serves as the primary point of contact between assemblers and Production Leads, ensuring that jobs are executed smoothly and efficiently. The Bench Captain is responsible for monitoring workflow, troubleshooting issues and maintaining productivity to meet production goals.  This role requires strong communication and organization skills to keep the team aligned and operational processes on task.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Read and follow written and verbal work instructions and standard operating procedures with emphasis on safety and quality inclusive of:

  • Work with leads to reduce any obstacles in production and output while maintaining a positive work environment
    • Make sure that everyone on the line stays busy, especially during a delay.  There is always something that can be worked on.
  • Monitor workflow by ensuring next job is staged and ready prior to completion of current job
    • Notify the Group Lead when you are 3-4 fixtures from completing the order by triggering the red light
  • Ensure jobs are started in Lumen and used correctly to ensure that any issues are captured in the system
    • Use pauses correctly
    • End jobs correctly
  • Assisting with training new hires
    • Notify a Group Lead with any concerns you encounter, but work with new hires to the best of your abilities
  • Providing guidance to assemblers on work instructions
  • Working with Engineering department when design questions occur
  • Managing the bench to ensure efficiency goals are met
    • If one step is slower or faster, notify the Group Lead.
  • Working with LEAN team on continuous improvement actions
    • Please make suggestions, some may be possible, some not, but we want to hear from you
  • Identifying and correcting potentially unsafe situations/conditions or notifying Production Group Lead about unsafe or emergency situations and recommending corrective measures or special equipment needed.
  • Following accepted housekeeping assignments to ensure work area meets housekeeping and safety standards
  • Keeping supervisors and peers informed about accomplishments and quality/safety issues/problems.
  • Performing routine inspections on products, processes, materials to assure work output meets specifications.
  • Assembling and installing parts using hand tools, air tools and/or power tools according to work instructions.
  • Fitting, wiring or otherwise connecting components using equipment according to work instructions.
  • Attending to equipment and ensuring proper operation. Participate in the implementation of Production equipment and facility maintenance
  • Comply with all Company policies, rules, guidelines and behavior expectations

Qualifications


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-3 years of manufacturing experience
  • Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Company employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (that is be a US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident) to be employed in the United States. The Company does not anticipate providing employment or work sponsorship for the Production assembly position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Have extensive product knowledge for product families built at the designated work bench.
  • Know how to utilize Dozuki for work instructions for determining how to build product
  • Know how to utilize Lumen for job transactions
  • Able to effectively coach other team members on product builds
  • Has a strong aptitude for quality and will raise concerns with needed
  • Works well with others and can motivate a team
  • Applicants must have the ability to read, speak and write English at a level that allows them to understand and communicate standard work instructions, job safety requirements and quality documentation in English.
  • Physical Requirements (Ability to do the following up to 10 hours per shift):
    • Complete assessment testing to be administered by Production Group Lead
    • Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl
    • Head/neck movement
    • Reach outward or above the shoulder
    • Lift, carry, push, or pull 15-45 pounds
    • Repetitive use of hands and fingers
    • Depth perceptions required
    • Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years manufacturing experience preferred
