Quantum Theory Software Engineer, Atomic Physics Focus presso Atomcomputing

At Atom Computing, we’re building quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms that will empower customers to achieve unprecedented computational breakthroughs. Work alongside our Quantum Engineering, Control Systems, and Software teams to demonstrate the power of scalable, neutral-atom quantum computers.We are seeking a physicist with experience in professional software development to contribute to our atomic physics and open quantum system simulations. You will help us to develop and improve tools that ultimately inform the architecture and strategy for building neutral atom quantum computers. Atomic qubit arrays provide a path to the large-scale quantum computers that will deliver fault-tolerant, error-corrected logical qubits.Candidates will be considered for Atom's locations in Berkeley, CA or Boulder, CO.

Job Responsibilities:

Develop new, improve existing, and optimize software tools to support a variety of tasks related to neutral atom quantum computing

Simulation of trapped neutral atoms

Research related to numerical efficiency and computing performance

Help to define, setup, and maintain databases

Analyze data generated from quantum hardware

Resource estimation for fault-tolerant quantum applications

Experience & Education:

PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Experience with scientific and/or high performance computing

Qualifications:

Must have previous experience developing software for numerical simulations and scientific, high performance, or quantum computing in academia or industry.

Coding proficiency in Python or Julia, and one or more compiled languages such as Rust, C, or C++, and familiarity with Git version control.

Documented ability to translate research results into functional production code.

Understanding of atomic, molecular and optical physics and willingness to keep learning.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to effectively collaborate with software developers, physicists, and engineers in complementary disciplines.
