About the Role
The Assistant Town Manager plays a critical leadership role in the strategic and operational direction of the Town of Mooresville. This position directs and coordinates the administration of Town government in accordance with policies determined by the Town Board and Town Manager. The Assistant Town Manager is responsible for measurable, cost-effective results related to the efficiency, productivity, and quality of activities performed within assigned departments and functions.
This role requires an experienced, forward-thinking public administrator who can balance daily operational oversight with long-term strategic goals, supporting innovation and collaboration across departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Provide leadership, management, and supervision of activities for assigned departments.
Serve as a key member of the Town’s Senior Leadership Team, collaborating with the Town Manager, other Assistant Town Managers, and department executives.
Direct the preparation of and monitor departmental and town-wide budgets.
Anticipate organizational needs and guide department leadership toward solutions that align with Town priorities.
Promote collaboration, innovation, and cross-departmental communication.
Stay informed on leading practices in public administration and organizational development.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
Lead productivity improvement efforts through technology and process optimization.
Maintain and update the Town’s Strategic Plan in coordination with leadership.
Represent the Town in meetings, conferences, and events at local, regional, and state levels.
Assist in developing agenda materials, presentations, and reports for the Town Board and Town Manager.
Oversee and manage special projects as assigned.
Perform related duties as required.
Other Qualifications
Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
Three (3) to five (5) years of executive-level public management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience managing one or more of the assigned departments preferred.
