Supervises:    Assigned personnel (EO II, III)



Beginning Salary:              $19.410-$23.780/ hr.    


Class Characteristics:   Performs work operating light vehicles and equipment as EO I, performs intermediate work on heavy vehicles and equipment as EO II and EOIII; performs maintenance worker duties when not operating vehicles or equipment.



General Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates light to medium and/or heavy vehicles and equipment such as dump trucks, street sweepers, backhoe/loader, chipper, and jet truck, depending of level of position.  Operates air compressor, jack hammer, and concrete saw.  Transports materials and equipment needed to maintain and clean City property.  Participates in construction, maintenance, and installation of electronic traffic signals and vehicular and pedestrian traffic signs and markings.  Operates dump trucks on slick or snow-covered streets for snow removal.  Performs preventive maintenance duties on equipment and vehicles.  Cleans vehicles and equipment after use.  Detects malfunctions in equipment and makes minor repairs or recommendations for major repairs.  Performs maintenance work duties when not operating trucks or equipment.  Assists other divisions as requested.  Performs other related duties as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience:  Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by moderate related work experience for EO I, moderate related work experience for EO II, and extensive work experience in the operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment for EO III.



Certification/Licensing Requirements:  Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake classification as a condition of continued employment in this class.



Availability:
Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at any time.



Overtime Provision:   Non-exempt.
