JOB SUMMARY
This employee will be a lead member of the Thrift Store team, focused on service to the customers, donors, and clients; receiving/processing donations and be able to assist with cashiering, restocking merchandise and training. This position will be primarily responsible for the donation acceptance area but needs to be willing to be flexible and willing to perform other tasks when needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and process donations based on the SVdP Take/Do Not Take list guidelines, packing and loading items onto a semi-trailer or into stock room as appropriate.
- Assist donors with unloading donations and loading purchased merchandise into customer vehicles.
- Provide customer and donor assistance throughout the store and donation areas: answer questions, anticipate donor and customers’ needs, offer help, and encourage sales.
- Restock & rotate merchandise on sales floor, accurately price, and mark down items as needed, pull and sort product in accordance with company guidelines and safety protocols.
- Communicate the needs of the donation area and furniture department to store management including donor/customer issues, supplies needed and other departmental needs.
- Keeping accurate counts of incoming product and maintaining a clean and organized donation area and stock room.
- Assists managers in ensuring that safety guidelines are being adhered to and notifying management of potential issues, hazards and unsafe practices.
- Readily handle multiple job functions, keep work areas neat and clean; prioritizing tasks and possess good decision-making skills.
- Help maintain cleanliness of store, perform cleaning duties on a rotating assignment list.
- Support the effort to create a more inclusive workplace environment.
- Adhere to the Safeguarding Policy by ensuring timely completion of mandatory training, staying updated on relevant training modules, and undergoing the necessary background checks to maintain compliance.

- Employee must have the ability to maintain professional, patient and courteous interactions with a diverse base of customers, donors, clients and other SVdP staff.
- Employee must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear, use hands to handle or touch product, tools, or controls.
- Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and lift/move up to 50 pounds with assistance from equipment or another person.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Employee must be able to follow instructions and work autonomously on assigned job duties.
- Employee must be able to work assigned shifts consistently and reliably.
- Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The Thrift store working environment may contain dust, debris or allergens commonly associated with all manner of pre-owned clothing, furniture and household goods. Certain areas of the store donation dock are only partially climate controlled.
