Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Manager, Research to lead and advance research initiatives within the School of Biological Sciences and Applied Chemistry and Seneca’s Centre for Innovation in Life Sciences (SCILS) located at Seneca@York. initiatives. This role is pivotal in driving impactful research projects, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and cultivating a creative and inclusive research environment. The successful candidate will contribute to Seneca’s academic excellence while ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion are embedded in all research operations.

Key Responsibilities:


Research Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy aligned with Seneca’s and SCILS strategic plan.
  • Lead a portfolio of research projects, ensuring effective management and impactful outcomes.
  • Promote ideation, experimentation, and integration of innovative approaches.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful project delivery.


Funding, Budgeting & Collaboration

  • Pursue funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals.
  • Build partnerships with external institutions, industry, and funding agencies.
  • Manage research budgets and optimize resource utilization.
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration among faculty, researchers, and students.


Team Management & Development

  • Lead and support a team through coaching, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Mentor faculty, researchers, and students in their professional and research development.
     

Ethics & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to ethical guidelines, data privacy regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Manage intellectual property including patents, copyrights, and licensing.
     

Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications:


Education:

  • Post-graduate degree in biological sciences, applied chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
     

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in research leadership, project management, and collaboration across disciplines.

  • Not applicable
     

Working Conditions:

  • Minimum 3 days in person at School of Biological Sciences and Applied Chemistry and SCILS laboratories at Seneca@York. May require travel to other ca
