JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, performs skilled maintenance/service on all vehicles in the transportation fleet. Corrects any vehicle defects as identified on daily inspection reports. Maintains logs/charts of all vehicle maintenance activities. Ensures compliance with environmental regulations as applicable to vehicle maintenance activities. Fill in as a bus driver and performs other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Light bulb replacement, tire changes, oil changes, fluid check and refilling, vehicle lubricating, tape ripped seats, mirror checks, fuse replacement, rotate security cameras among buses, electrical repairs. Maintain computerized record keeping system for all repairs. Pick up/drop off buses sent out for major repairs. Drive a scheduled school bus run when needed. Move vehicles in transportation yard as needed. Answer phone calls and retrieve voice mail messages made to the Transportation Office as needed.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Graduation from high school and three years of experience in the maintenance/repair of automobiles or commercial vehicles, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge, Attitude, and Skills: Good working knowledge of the tools, materials, methods and standard practices of the automotive mechanical trade; good working knowledge of the operating principles and mechanics of internal combustion engines; working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; knowledge of proper handling and disposal techniques for hazardous materials used in the course of daily vehicle maintenance activities; skill in the use and care of the hand and machine tools employed in automotive repair work; ability to understand and follow quickly and accurately oral and written instructions; ability to perform repair activities in locations that may require substantial physical dexterity.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Must hold a valid State of Connecticut Driver’s License. Must possess or be able to obtain a State of Connecticut Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with both P and S endorsements within six (6) months of hire date.
