Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Truck Driver provides pick-up and delivery services of goods from The Salvation Army Distribution Centre to Salvation Army Ministry Units in the Ontario Division. The incumbent will exercise safe, timely and careful driving and material handling procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations:
Capable of driving the ministry unit’s vehicles including either 3 ton or 5-ton commercial vehicles as well as cube vans or panel vans.
Ensure the safe and careful handling of all deliveries and donations, while protecting property, including donations and vehicles.
Take responsibility for daily and overall safety, maintenance, operation of vehicle, and records of the vehicle.
Provide customers and donors with courteous and diplomatic service.
Record information on pick-ups and deliveries, vehicle mileage, fuel costs and any problems encountered.
Fuel the vehicle as necessary and ensure that the vehicle is always kept clean and presentable.
Maintain daily CVOR log as per regulation; load and operate vehicle as per the ministry of transportation regulations.
Prepare and submit any paperwork in a timely manner as required.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment (vehicle, warehouse and yard).
Provide any daily communication of service comments from ministry units, suppliers or other contacts to supervisor.
Distribution Centre:
Operates a fork-lift/hand cart to load, unload or move food and/or toys within the centre.
Build or assist in the building of skids for delivery.
Accurately count product being delivered.
Other related warehouse duties as assigned.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
Maintain knowledge of legislative and company policies such as Health & Safety Regulations, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts.
Ensure the safe and careful handling and pickup of all deliveries, donations etc. while protecting the property, including donations and vehicles.
Responsible for the following, work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness.
Report any vehicle safety issues immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property.
Perform other position related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a temporary full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
Flexibility in scheduling is required during peak and/or seasonal times, and schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities and may include some weekend work.
Ability to lift/move 50 lbs. without assistance, and this job requires frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and kneeling.
Working environment is typically in the warehouse or on the road conducting deliveries or pickups.
The incumbent may work under the following disagreeable conditions, odors, dirty environment, truck fumes, extreme temperature changes in walk-in refrigerator and freezer.
Maintain a clean drivers abstract / clean driving record (report any changes); required to Inform supervisor of any driving or vehicle infractions.
Required to drive outside GTA locations as needed.
Required to wear safety equipment as needed; steel-toed boots are required.
Maintain a presentable appearance with clear Salvation Army logo insignia visible.
Present a friendly and cooperative demeanor in line with salvation army standards.
Normal Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications
Completion of secondary school or GED
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
Must have one (1) year of prior related experience driving a commercial vehicle.
Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license, provides a driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Current forklift operators’ certification is an asset.
Familiar with GTA.
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening
Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $20.25 to $25.31 with a maximum of $30.37.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
