Job Purpose & Position Overview

The Unsheltered Relatives/Sober Living Technician is responsible for conducting intakes with potential residents, ensuring compliance with the policies and safety guidelines of all residents, communicating information to other employees and residents, answering phone calls, and completing monthly reports and daily bed lists. The Unsheltered Relatives/Sober Living Program is a sober living shelter environment. The Technician provides compassionate, culturally respectful support to residents in a sober living environment. This role ensures the safety, structure, and healing of the home while honoring Indigenous values, traditions, and pathways to recovery. Technicians serve as mentors, monitors, and cultural connectors—helping residents maintain sobriety, rebuild relationships, and reclaim wellness.

 

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Must become knowledgeable of the Recovery program organization, philosophy, functions, policies and procedures, mandated by State/Federal Regulations.
  • Provide a daily written record of client consultations, client incidents and submit such reports to the Director on a weekly basis.
  • Will notify appropriate staff when crisis situation occurs.
  • Provide daily supervision and emotional support to residents
  • Monitor adherence to house rules, sobriety requirements, and curfews
  • Conduct wellness checks and document resident progress
  • Assist with conflict resolution and crisis de-escalation using trauma-informed approaches
  • Encourage participation in traditional healing practices, ceremonies, and talking circles
  • Support residents in reconnecting with tribal identity, language, and community
  • Collaborate with elders, cultural mentors, and spiritual leaders to foster cultural safety
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and order in the home
  • Assist with meal planning, transportation, and scheduling of appointments
  • Ensure supplies are stocked and communal spaces are respected
  • Provide routine inspections of resident’s quarters and resident’s assigned daily house duties
  • Provide emergency maintenance, routine maintenance repairs as needed and report equipment failure and building repairs that occur during their shift.
  • Has primary responsibility for the building maintenance, janitorial services and ground maintenance of the building.
  • Assign house details to residents.
  • May chaperone and transport residents to outside AA meetings, gatherings and recreational activities.
  • May transport residents to shopping, court, employment and medical appointments when necessary.
  • Able to conduct and complete thorough intakes, using approved assessments and forms.
  • Oversee the safety of all residents throughout your shift.
  • Able to supervise the program activities of the residents
  • Complete monthly report and daily bed list.
  • Administer initial and random alcohol and drug screenings to maintain sobriety of resident.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as necessary

Qualifications


Qualifications/Skills:

  • Possess a High School Diploma or verifiable GED and/or a minimum of one (1) year of experience in related work experience.
  • Have a minimum of one (1) years sobriety and abstain from alcohol/drugs while employed in this position, a pre-employment drug/alcohol test will be required.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the disease concept of substance abuse and possess a thorough understanding of substance abuse as it pertains to Native Americans.
  • Must be in excellent physical and mental health and have the ability of lifting 50lbs and able to climb a flight of stairs.  Must pass a physical within 30-days of hire and annually thereafter. 
  • Must have good personal hygiene habits.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment and initiative and have the ability to delegate and motivate.
  • Must maintain the strictest confidentiality laws and regulations regarding clients and program records.
  • Must be willing to work an irregular work schedule when requested.
  • Have a Valid Driver’s License, be insurable and have own transportation.
  • Ability to express written ideas, opinions or facts with clarity.
  • Have the ability to use time constructively.
  • Must be a team-player and have a positive attitude.
  • Must pass a Federal Background Check.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs. 
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
