School Based Prevention Specialist presso Crawford Central School District

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A degree in Psychology or related field 

2. Experience in site based, short term, counseling/intervention 

3. A valid Student Assistance Program Certification obtained within three (3) years of assuming duties in the District 

4. Community Mental Health Agency experience preferred. 

5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:    Building Principal, Director of Curriculum

JOB GOAL:         To provide on site mental health counseling to district students who are referred due to school reasons which are characterized by a drop in grades, absenteeism, increase in discipline incidents, not achieving their full potential, increases in classroom disruption, increase in conflicts with other students, etc; family reasons which may include abuse/neglect, divorce, parent/child conflict, or family drug and/or alcohol use; grief of a relative, friend, or acquaintance; or for other reasons such as suspected  depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, eating disorders, pregnancy, stress, peer conflicts, suspected drug or alcohol use, etc.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain regular contact with the designated administrator in each assigned building. 

2. Provide counseling to students referred through the Student Assistance Program and have been assessed by the Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol liaisons. 

3. Provide crises intervention and post-intervention services as needed. 

4. Maintain a high level of confidentiality. 

5. Provide information on mental health, behavioral and developmental issues to parents, students’ teachers and other staff members as requested and authorized.    

6. Submit to the District an annual comprehensive report that reflects the extent of the Mental Health Counseling services. 

7. Other duties as requested by the Director of Curriculum or Building Principal.
