- Lead data governance efforts, ensuring that data quality standards are met, and compliance requirements are maintained across all datasets. Manage the development and maintenance of data pipelines to ensure seamless flow of asset management data across systems. Apply advanced data science techniques (including SQL, Python, R) to analyze large datasets and build predictive models and strategic forecasts. Provide ad hoc emerging technologies and analytical support across various LIRR operational areas, addressing immediate data-related challenges and business needs. Develop data management strategies.
- Collaborate with IT, operational departments, and data/process owners to understand business needs and design analytical models and systems. Support the exploration of new/emerging technologies, including the Transit Tech Lab efforts.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of all data science processes, methodologies, and findings for internal stakeholders. Develop communication plans.
- Support the department in budgeting, procurement, reporting, and contract management. Support organizational safety initiatives.
- Observing the work performed by the contractor; Reviewing invoices and approving them if the work has contractual standards; Addressing performance issues with the contractor when possible; and Escalating issues to other parties as needed.
- Train, mentor, and provide guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Management, Statistics, Mathematics or Transportation Planning. An additional four years of experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a data science or data engineering role or another position with similar programming and data management content.
- A minimum of (5) year of experience building datasets, automating tasks through scripts, writing database queries and debugging/ maintaining code.
- A minimum of (5+ years) experience with Python, R, and SQL programming
- Must possess proficiency in data management
- Must possess understanding of analytical methods (e.g., probability and statistics, algorithm design)
- Must possess familiarity with transit/ transportation systems, particularly the MTA subway, bus and railroad networks
- Must possess exceptional ability to read code and interpret data
- Must possess familiarity with KPI metrics and ability to create algorithms to calculate them
- Must possess strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills and sound judgment with proven ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Hands-on working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
- Must possess strong communication, facilitation, and teamwork skills.
- Must possess the ability to prepare and deliver presentation to senior management, outside agencies and other officials.
- A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Management, Statistics, Mathematics or Transportation Planning.
- Experience with Enterprise Asset Management and GIS technologies and related fields.
- Familiarity with data processing and management support tools, including MS Office, advanced excel analysis, BI tools
- Knowledge of railroad industry
- Knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management concepts
- Knowledge of SDE geodatabases, perform geoprocessing and other spatial analyses
