Department Superintendent - Decatur, IL
 
Position Summary:  
The Facilities Management Department Superintendent is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Loadout and Utility Building areas and supervising the operations workforce. The Loadout operations include truck and railcar chemical unloading, bulk storage for ammonia, sulfuric and hydrochloric acid, rail movement for Bio and Glycol, bulk loading of liquid lysine finished product and fertilizer and the fertilizer bulk storage tanks. The Utilities areas include the Utility Building (chillers and chilled water loop, air compressors and dryers), cooling towers, cooling water loops and associated bulk chemical storage, fire protection tank and pumphouse, stormwater retention basin, and cooling/chilled loop water treatment.  
The Facilities Management Superintendent reports to the Plant Superintendent. 
 
Job Responsibilities: 
  • Demonstrates safety leadership through active participation in all safety processes as well as ensuring colleagues are engaged and committed to the benefits of working safe
  • Proactively work to ensure that all ADM employees, contractors, vendors and visitors understand and comply with all ADM safety, environmental, quality policies and procedures
  • Provide positive reinforcement to colleagues observed demonstrating safe work habits and producing expected results the right way
  • Actively promote, lead, support and fully participate in the Performance Excellence process in the Facilities Management department and BioProducts facility through use of PE and A2E tools such as KPI’s, Focused Improvement, Review and Response, Layered Auditing and Zero Loss
  • Ensure the correct utilization, operation and maintenance of equipment to support plant production, cost targets and regulatory compliance
  • Develop the FM operations team to troubleshoot and resolve problems at department level whenever possible and deliver regular feedback that is effective, consistent and fair
  • Identify knowledge and skill gaps in operations and facilitate needed training and continuing education
  • Ability to plan strategically for both short- and long-term objectives to realize departmental and plant goals
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with groups internal and external to the plant including EHS, quality and food safety, process controls, maintenance, plant leadership, Centers of Excellence and Subject Matter Experts
  • Recognize and proactively address human and process safety, environmental, and food and feed safety issues; ensure prompt reporting and investigation; manage corrective actions
  • Actively promote, lead, support and fully participate in the PSM/RMP compliance (ammonia) and facility emergency response processes
  • Management of bulk chemical inventory, ordering and delivery
  • Bulk chemical truck unloading operations at South Chemical Tank Farm and cooling towers
  • Railcar management – ordering, receipt and approval, inspection, loading and offloading, railcar release, and railroading activities for BioProducts and Glycol
  • Management of finished product loading (bulk and non-bulk) and shipping
  • Administrative duties to include managing department related controlled documents, review of operations paperwork, operator scheduling and time-off approval, compliance related documentation and audits, performance of compliance related audits and inspections

 

Job Requirements: 
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience with increasing manufacturing leadership responsibility, or hands-on, increasing production leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of plant operations in one or more departments
  • Ability to effectively and promptly communicate both verbally and written with colleagues at all levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills that include handling conflict, motivating, instructing, developing and training personnel in a fair, honest, and direct way
  • Ability to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, have excellent organizational and prioritization skills to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks, meet deadlines, and strive for continuous improvement and high expectations of direct reports
  • Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, PI, and Maximo

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$70,400.00 - $131,600.00

The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus
