Babson College Service and Justice Community Action Program (CAP) is an opportunity for work-study-eligible students to do community service for up to 20 hours a week and get paid for it through Federal and Babson work-study funding. YOU MUST BE FEDERAL WORK-STUDY ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION.

Students will gain real-life experience at a non-profit organization while at the same time gaining a greater sense of some of society’s problems and what can be done to help.

Job Description:

Community Action Program students will attend a weekly program in a nonprofit providing assistance to individuals and families in under resourced communities. All of the programs with times and dates are listed below. Travel is provided in a Babson vehicle to all off-site service locations.

Qualifications:

  • You must be FEDERAL WORK-STUDY ELIGIBLE to apply for this program.
    • Please check your student work-study to ensure that you have work-study prior to applying
  • Interested in utilizing your entrepreneurial mindset to create a positive social impact
  • Have volunteer experience and are flexible.
  • You must be able to attend training on Friday, September 16 from 11:00-1:00 pm
  • Participate in either the Cruickshank Race for Shelter, Saturday, October 1st as a volunteer, runner, or walker.
  • Attend at least one program for Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in November.

Hoops and Homework, Framingham(on-site)

Academic Mentor

Monday and Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm (4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with travel) The Afterschool program takes place at the Framingham Housing Authority.

2.TechMates (on-site)

Senior Citizen Technology Mentor

Tuesdays 3:00-4:00 pm (2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. with travel)

Teach various technology skills to seniors living in public housing residences in Framingham.

3.Harvard Square Church Meals at Christ Church (on-site)

Meal Server

Thursdays, 4:45-6:30 pm. (4:00 pm to 7:15 pm. with travel)

Help prepare, serve, and clear a community supper for about 100 guests in need of a meal.

4.Cradles to Crayons (on-site)

Sort Leaders

Fridays, 10:30-3:00 pm. (9:50 am to 3:30 pm with travel)

C2C provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low- income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school, and at play.

5.Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore (on site)

Construction Aide

Fridays, 10:00-1:00 pm (9:15 am to 1:45 pm with travel)

This nonprofit organization is dedicated to helping homeless families by providing shelter, food, clothing, furniture, education, and advocacy.

6.Big Brother Big Sister (Babson campus)

Mentor

Every other Saturday 1-4 PM on Babson’s campus

BBBS provides youth ages 7-12 from the Boston community with strong and enduring one-to-one friendships that change their lives forever. During 14 on- campus Saturday outings, Babson students will spend time with their Little exploring campus, playing games, and having fun.
