Job Description
Maintains and updates databases, logs, and reports. Examines routine data to detect critical conditions and advises water manager of abnormal conditions and requests guidance for unstable situations. Monitors SCADA Ovation operating system for alarms and adjusts gates and/or pumps when necessary.
May coordinate information with the Corps of Engineers. May communicate emergency efforts between District, local and state governmental agencies.
Work schedule includes rotating/varied shifts, rotating/split days off, staggered hours (which may change on short notice), weekend, holiday duty, overtime, and extended hours.
Effectively practices and applies fundamental technical and leadership competencies in engineering support. Has exceptional research, testing, analytical, problem solving, presentation and verbal/written communication skills. Has good computer and database systems aptitude and proficiency.
Possesses advanced skills in Engineering Technology, Electronics or related field. Has the ability to use multiple PCs with advanced SCADA systems software. Has the ability to read and interpret operational data, plans, and maps. Is proficient with engineering instruments and equipment. Has the ability to quickly analyze, correlate, and present factual data in graphic form; adapt new technology and methods to increase program effectiveness; prepare work reports/operations logs and effectively communicate with others in person, telephone and using radio systems. Will adhere to all applicable statutes, laws, policies, and procedures. Has the ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Proactively monitor and operate the Primary system 24/7/365 and thereby provide real-time insight and assistance to the Water Manager’s.
- Have advanced technical knowledge of SFWMD’s Ovation SCADA program and participate in real time operations and new site certifications.
- Provide consistent, accurate, clear and honest verbal and written communications at all time setting an example.
- Provide exceptional customer service for all internal and external customers and the public which include Supervisor, Water Managers, Coworkers, Field Station Staff, SCADA and field support staff.
- Immediately receive, understand and follow all specific direction and operational orders given by Water Managers and OCC Supervisor. Be able to explain all actions and operations implemented.
- Fill a senior level leadership position that requires On-Call 24/7/365, as scheduled, and subject to short notice and change, (includes after hours, Holidays, Hurricane Season schedule adjustments).
- Monitor SCADA-Ovation and IT network systems while on shift (Ovation, Active MQ/Mulesoft, pump orders application, Elogger, email, SCADA network, gateway network).
- Provide guidance and input for new and existing CST’s and Water Manager’s.
Employment Guidelines:
Associates' Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Electrical Power Technology, Instrumentation and Operational Controls, Electronics or related field and 6 years of experience. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
License(s) / Certification(s):
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on the assigned emergency response role.
