Overview:

Preferred Reinsurance Intermediaries (Preferred Re) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Balavant Insurance Group. Preferred Re is a full-service reinsurance broker with a strong focus on the Program Business space, serving both companies within the Balavant portfolio as well as unaffiliated clients. The division is in a period of transformational growth and development, and we are seeking a motivated reinsurance professional to manage all contracts and provide support to the broking team as they build and scale the business to its full potential. We are seeking a Manager who possesses the work ethic, experience, and leadership qualities to draft reinsurance treaty language and build out Preferred Re’s contracts infrastructure. This position will report to the EVP leader of Preferred Re and have authority over all contract operations. As Preferred Re continues to grow, the Reinsurance Contracts Manager will be expected to hire and manage additional Contracts resources as needed, subject to approval by the Preferred Re leadership. As the leader of the reinsurance contracts division, you will be expected to modernize contract templates and ensure that those and existing contracts are kept up to date with industry best practices and market standards at each renewal. Furthermore, you will work closely with senior brokers to ensure that contract wordings align with the negotiated terms and conditions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Draft new treaty reinsurance contracts and endorsements that align with brokers’ and clients’ expectations and any negotiated terms and conditions
  • For existing or renewal business, proactively review expiring/existing language, provide feedback and be prepared to discuss with internal stakeholders alternative language or other ways in which Preferred Re can improve the contract wordings
  • Analyze incoming, third-party contracts and endorsements to check for deviations from industry, Preferred Re guidelines or agreed-upon terms.
  • Maintain familiarity with BRMA, RAA, NAIC and/or UNIDROIT reinsurance contract standards and updates to ensure contract wordings are kept up to date with the latest industry standards and best practices.
  • Update Preferred Re boilerplate contract wording templates as needed. Maintain a template library and implement controls for changes and approvals.
  • Work with the broking team to explain the refinement of wordings, interpret policy language, resolve contract issues and collaboratively establish best practices.
  • Stay current on insurance and reinsurance industry trends and regulatory changes impacting reinsurance contract wording issues.
  • Organize and update contractual resources, including wording templates, filing systems, draft versions, document tracking, etc.
  • Maintain contract version control and audit trails.
  • Support the broking team, as well as all Preferred Re and other Balavant Group associates, as needed, as the subject matter expert (SME) on reinsurance contract wordings.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience within the reinsurance industry in both a Contracts and managerial capacity
  • Deep familiarity with treaty structures, common clauses, documentation standards and the relevant publicly available industry wordings libraries
  • Able to articulate precedence between general and special conditions and manage appendices/schedules
  • Confident in red lining with clear, pragmatic drafting style, able to reconcile stakeholders’ intent and resolve issues quickly
  • Strong document control and governance mindset
  • Comfortable with contract management tools like Microsoft365, Adobe
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, with an ability to create and manage document drafts, red lines and feedback input
  • Acutely familiar with the reinsurance broking placement process and contract certainty requirements
  • Strong communicator with capability to interact with clients to cultivate and maintain strong relationships
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude towards customer service and relationship management
  • Effective analytical and logical reasoning abilities
  • Good attention to detail
  • Organizational skills and ability to problem-solve and multi-task
  • Desire to have fun and engage with the team

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000. The offer will depend on the geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
