A Brief Overview
Develops, coordinates, monitors, teaches, evaluates, and improves the Emergency Management program. Manages the Disaster Distribution Center by developing and overseeing stock rotation plans, conducting inventories and managing delivery and distribution of supplies. Reports, corrects and ensures compliance with regulatory Agencies. Supports the Director of Safety with safety program initiatives. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Develops, oversees, and conducts training for all Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare facilities and departments as needed.
  • Chairs and facilitates the MLH Emergency Management Committee.
  • Conducts appropriate assessment of and ensures adherence to the Regulatory Standards related to Emergency Management.
  • Manages and improves Emergency Management Program(s) for multiple settings and venues at MLH.
  • Collaborates with local emergency management agencies and participates in city-wide planning and drills to ensure emergency response efforts are established between MLH and the region.
  • Develops, monitors, and conducts exercises and activities in accordance with regulatory standards related to Emergency Management. Documents events and drills to develop after action reports.
  • Ensures action plans are developed for deficiencies noted on after action reports.
  • Evaluates, selects and maintains necessary resources, equipment, and inventory with appropriate input from other subject matter experts.
  • Manages the 30,000 sq ft Disaster Distribution Center by developing and overseeing rotation, distribution and inventory levels.
  • Manages, develops and maintains incident command platform for use during emergency situations.
  • Assists System Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Management.


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree Emergency Management
  • Bachelor's Degree Healthcare Administration
  • Bachelor's Degree Occupational Health & Safety

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Emergency Management
  • 1-3 years Loss prevention
  • 1-3 years Process improvement
  • 1-3 years Risk management
  • 1-3 years Safety

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of hospital operations and regulatory agencies.
  • Computer skills in database programming, electronic spreadsheet programs, word processing, Windows, Excel, etc.
  • Skill in developing and implementing long-range plans and programs.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate with others.
  • Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials
  • Ability to teach/train classes of 50 or more attendees.
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals and groups of people toward the accomplishment of work and organizational goals.
  • Ability to plan and schedule tasks and projects and to maintain control of own and others' workflow.
  • Ability to work without close supervision or professional guidance and to exercise independent judgment.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Hazardous Materials and HAZWOPER certification Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional International Board for Certification of Safety Managers

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • There are no lead or supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position. Incumbent assumes responsibility for providing in-services and training sessions to Methodist Healthcare Associates at assigned locations on all shifts, and acts as resource as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Travel to other Methodist facilities and venues, if appropriate or necessary.
  • Ability to crouch, crawl, climb, and walk throughout shift in order to inspect various confined spaces such as interstitial areas.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials and conditions as related to working in a healthcare environment. Hazards include but are not limited to chemicals, radiation, and high noise levels.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to infectious disease, heat, cold, fire, smoke, fumes and noises.
  • 24/7 on call to respond to emergency situation.
