The Senior Product Line Manager (SPLM) leads the strategic direction, financial performance, and long-term roadmap of a larger or more complex categories within the brand portfolio. This leadership role takes a holistic view of the business, driving the full product lifecycle, shaping line architecture, fostering innovation, and ensuring commercial success. The SPLM ensures every product reflects consumer insight, brand authenticity, and business strategy. Serving as the key liaison between internal teams and external brand partners, this role aligns cross-functional stakeholders to deliver market leading assortments that achieve growth, profitability, and relevance. Success in this position requires deep expertise in product management across lifestyle, outdoor, action sports, and workwear segments as well as the ability to lead through influence, develop talent, and strengthen brand partnerships.
Strategic Leadership & Long-Term Vision
- Develop and lead the long-term strategic vision and 3–5-year roadmap for multiple categories or higher-impact product lines that strengthen brand equity, channel relevance, and financial performance.
- Identify whitespace opportunities and define category positioning aligned with brand direction, market trends, and consumer insights.
- Partner with leadership to prioritize initiatives, allocate resources, and ensure the strategy aligns with company growth objectives.
Brand & Partnership Leadership
- Serve as the primary point of contact with brand partners, aligning on vision, positioning, and product direction.
- Lead seasonal and annual strategy reviews with brands to ensure brand authenticity and alignment with commercial goals.
- Oversee approval processes and ensure products meet brand standards and DNA, for design, quality, line architecture, product positioning and representation.
Consumer, Market, and Business Insight
- Monitor and analyze brand and category performance, consumer feedback, and competitive landscape to optimize product and business decisions.
- Lead consumer insight initiatives and translate findings into actionable product strategies.
- Ensure all product briefs are strategic, data-driven, and grounded in channel, consumer, and market insights.
- Maintain deep knowledge of global market trends across lifestyle, outdoor, workwear, action sports categories.
- Conduct in-season management and post-season business reviews to evaluate performance, efficiency, and profitability.
Product Creation & Lifecycle Management
- Oversee full product lifecycle from concept through commercialization that align with brand vision, ensuring clear product intent, margin targets, and timely execution.
- Lead seasonal assortment strategies including line plans, distribution mapping, launch timing, pricing, and line architecture.
- Drive financial accountability by managing category metrics, including revenue, margin, and SKU efficiency.
- Oversee color strategy, lifecycle, and investment guidance across brands and categories.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with Design, Development, Marketing, Merchandising, Sales, and Operations to bring product lines to life.
- Champion clarity, alignment, and accountability within all stages of the Integrated Development Process (IDP).
- Represent assigned brands in key account presentations, line reviews, and internal strategy meetings.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Mentor and coach Product Line Managers and Associate PLMs, providing regular feedback, direction, and development opportunities.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative team culture that emphasizes accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Lead by example, inspiring creativity, strategic thinking, and cross-functional respect throughout the organization.
Requirements
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture, connect long-term vision to actionable strategies, and drive day-to-day execution. Demonstrated financial acumen in managing margins, costing, and financial planning.
- Product Expertise: Proven success in bringing physical products to market, with a deep understanding of the end-to-end product creation and commercialization process.
- Relationship Building: Strong ability to build and maintain relationships across cross-functional teams and external partners, driving alignment and collaboration.
- Communication & Presentation: Exceptional presentation, communication and storytelling skills; able to clearly convey complex ideas, establish credibility, and build consensus at all levels.
- Professionalism & Teamwork: Demonstrates high degree of professionalism, collaboration, and positive influence across peers and stakeholders.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office with working knowledge of Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Flex PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems, and other business intelligence tools.
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Merchandising, or Retail Management), MBA preferred with a minimum of 7 years of Product Line Management or related product management experience.
