About the Department

THE VACANCY:

This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning all are welcome to apply and current employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams.  

There is currently one vacancy within the Maintenance and Operations department (working 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year). This position is assigned to Estancia High School, will work an afternoon shift with hours of approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and a 2.5% shift differential will be added to the base salary. Additionally, based on the nature of this assignment, there is often a need to work weekends.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the assigned Supervisor, assist with the planning, organization and implementation of theater productions and other events; oversee the maintenance and operation of electrical equipment; assist in maintaining an inventory of theater equipment, supplies and materials; conduct inspections of overhead rigging equipment, curtains, and safety equipment; maintain master calendar for main stage and black box theaters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in theater design or related field and one year theater production experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license

The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted virtually, using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.

The virtual written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of December 1stThe virtual qualifications appraisal interview (oral exam) is tentatively scheduled for the week of December 15th. Minimum Qualifications

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assist with the planning, organization and implementation of theater productions and other events including concerts, meetings, seminars, lectures and school gatherings requiring technical support; analyze needs and generate technical plans to assure production success; assist with set construction as required; provide guidance regarding scene changes and other transitions.
 
Oversee the maintenance and operation of electrical equipment, including lighting instruments, power and data cabling, lighting positions and the safe adjustment of lighting counterweights.
 
Train and provide work direction to students and customers regarding technical equipment.
 
Communicate with permit holders, customers and theater users regarding event information, technical requirements and to respond to inquiries and resolve issues; interpret and explain theater and District rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
 
Assist in maintaining an inventory of theater equipment, supplies and materials for use in the designing, constructing, maintaining and repairing of stage sets and riggings; organize and maintain storage area for equipment, supplies and materials.
 
Conduct inspections of overhead rigging equipment, curtains, and safety equipment; monitor equipment for abnormalities or defects; submit repairs to appropriate personnel; drive a vehicle for work.
 
Maintain master calendar for main stage and black box theaters; process and approve facility permits and related documents; maintain and submit related records to an assigned database.
 
Set up, test and operate a variety of lighting and sound equipment; update firmware, replace lamps and repair fixtures, accessories, cables, transmitters and headsets.
 
Maintain the auditorium and stage in a safe, orderly, clean and secure condition; provide information to students and teachers regarding safety and proper use of auditorium facilities.
 
Perform a variety of custodial duties in order to maintain the cleanliness of the auditorium facilities; mop stages, scrape gum, sweep seats, vacuum carpets, clean glass, dust equipment, brush draperies, replace aisle lights and clean projector air filters.
