Job Summary:

Are you ready to have an exciting career with a growing company? Ascension Risk & Insurance Services, LLC is looking for an Underwriter in our Benicia, CA location. This role will underwrite new, existing and renewing policies. You will partner with our distribution partners and capacity providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate new and renewal homeowners insurance submissions for eligibility, pricing, and terms within E&S underwriting authority.
  • Analyze inspection reports, property characteristics, loss history, and geographic hazards (e.g., wildfire, flood, wind).
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, rating manuals, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliant risk selection.
  • Collaborate with agents, brokers and distribution partners to gather additional information, negotiate terms, and explain underwriting decisions.
  • Determine appropriate carriers or programs for placement based on risk profile, coverage needs, and market appetite.
  • Identify and manage exposure concentrations, including high-risk areas or catastrophe-prone regions.
  • Recommend underwriting strategies to optimize profitability and maintain competitiveness.
  • Utilize underwriting systems and tools for data entry, rating and decision-making.
  • Participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives for underwriting processes.
  • Stay current on emerging property risks, insurance regulations and market trends.
  • Support agent relationships through responsive communication, education, and creative problem solving for complex risks.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience with personal lines insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of homeowners policy coverage forms (HO-3, HO-5, etc.) and ISO or proprietary rules.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, Sharepoint and adaptable to learn new systems.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and sound judgement.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with agents and internal teams.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Risk Management & Insurance or equivalent work experience.
  • Property & Casualty license required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

The base compensation range for this position is $80,000 - $125,000. This range reflects Acrisure's good faith estimate at the time of this posting. Placement within the range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.

Pay Details:

The base compensation range for this position is $80,000 - $125,000. This range reflects Acrisure's good faith estimate at the time of this posting. Placement within the range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.

Candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.
