SynTerra is looking for a qualified entry-level to near-entry-level environmental engineer who can work in a team environment and help our clients meet their project objectives. You should have 0-2 years of work experience. Experience with environmental compliance, preparing permit applications (air, stormwater, or wastewater) and technical writing are a plus. This position requires the ability to work independently on specific assigned tasks in collaboration with experienced project team members. The position requires the ability to occasionally work in an outdoor environment and to travel.
This entry-level position provides a path for career advancement dependent on the employee’s ability to successfully complete specific task assignments, grow their professional skills, and take on additional project responsibilities.
SynTerra provides a broad range of environmental consulting services including environmental permitting, regulatory compliance management, reporting, and impact assessment and mitigation across a very diverse set of clients, primarily within the Southeastern United States.
Position snapshot:
- Complete specific tasks in accordance with assignments given by project managers and other team members
- Demonstrate the ability to assess information including but not limited to lab reports, regulatory requirements, previous reports, and technical directions for the preparation of environmental permits and other documents to complete specific task assignments
- Provide feedback to project managers and other team members regarding findings and recommendations for further assessment or inclusion in reports to clients
- Prepare draft reports, calculations, drawings, letters, permit applications, and other documentation associated with task assignments
- Finalize documents in accordance with review comments received from the project manager
- Participate in client meetings and phone calls
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering
- Ability to carry out specific tasks assigned by project managers
- Willing to take on new tasks and assignments to build work experience portfolio
- Competent with basic math skills including unit conversions and simple engineering calculations
- Competent with basic chemistry concepts including assessing the interaction of chemicals with the environment as indicated by chemical and physical properties such as melting point, water solubility, vapor pressure, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Software proficiency (including but not limited to) Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint .
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus.
- Willingness and ability for occasional overnight travel.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
- Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.
- Must be able to lift 35 to 50 pounds and work outside in heat and cold.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
