Location: This position will report to Georgia Power HQ located at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd Atlanta, GA (Statewide Responsibility). Position may report directly to customer locations on a daily basis.
Travel Requirements – 50% to include overnight stay- position requires travel statewide, including overnight travel.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Science or Fire Protection Engineering, preferred
- Professional Certification through NFPA (ex. Certified Fire Protection Specialist CFPS) preferred.
- NICET Fire Certifications- preferred.
Experience
- Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience developing, implementing, and assuring compliance with state and local fire requirements required.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience working with fire systems including inspection, maintenance, or system design.
- Anyone with Fire Marshall and Fire Safety experience preferred
- Previous experience delivering presentations to large group audiences (50 or more attendees) is required.
- Experience working with utility or similar industry fire systems (inspections, maintenance and engineering) strongly desired.
- Previous experience developing procedures that comply with federal, state, and/or local regulatory agencies- strongly desired.
- Previous experience auditing facility fire systems- preferred.
JOB SUMMARY
- Work with management to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and health programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures.
- Provide technical expertise related to fire systems design, inspection requirements, maintenance and testing of GPC facilities' fire suppression and alarm systems.
- Support training program through oversight, material development, direction, coordination, support and instruction for Georgia Power employees around fire protection and prevention methods.
- Develop and foster a business relationship with the State Fire Marshal's offices and act as a liaison to local Fire Departments and other agencies for purposes of communication and exchange on relevant topics including, new system installation/upgrades, new technologies, new regulatory requirements, and other relevant matters.
- Partner with business units to conduct routine facility fire system safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Provide technical insight during project development and planning meetings.
- Prepare clear, detailed technical reports and documentation for fire safety activities, system performance, and incident investigations.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of Emergency Response Plans, supporting preparedness and effective incident management.
- Review, develop, and update fire safety policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with current standards and operational requirements.
- Evaluate current Emergency Response programs, provide insight into gaps, and assist in building successful Emergency Response strategies to close gaps.
- Perform monthly facility walkdowns and assessments to identify areas of non-compliance.
- Provide training and education to employees on safety and health practices.
- Collaborate with various work groups to integrate safety and health initiatives into daily operations.
- Serve as a corporate resource, offering expertise and guidance on safety and health matters.
- Drive a positive safety culture by promoting best practices, encouraging proactive safety behaviors, and challenging the status quo.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in fire safety/emergency management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Must be highly motivated, self-driven, and capable of working independently with limited or no supervision.
- Experience in a leadership role is desired.
- Experience in writing safety processes and procedures is desired.
- The successful individual must possess the ability to develop into and be recognized as the subject matter expert in fire safety.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must be able to communicate with all levels of employees and management.
- Ability to interpret safety rules and regulations.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Products (Excel, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint)
