At the DeVos-Blum Family YMCA, our mission is putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. (YMCA of South Palm Beach County) Our Youth Sports department includes both introductory leagues and a competitive travel club - the Boynton Blockers Volleyball Academy, participating in tournaments locally and in-state. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the travel volleyball program structure (tryouts, team placement, practice schedule, tournament schedule, travel logistics) in alignment with the mission and standards of the YMCA.
- Coordinate and execute tryouts for each age group, working with the Sports/Youth Director to promote and recruit participants.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate coaches for each team; lead coach meetings and ensure consistency in coaching philosophy and expectations.
- Create and manage the season calendar: practices, tournaments (local and in-state travel as required by the club), team travel logistics (transportation, lodging, meals, chaperones) and communication with families.
- Manage program budget, including registration fees, tournament costs, travel expenses, uniforms/equipment, facility usage.
- Monitor player development and retention: establish progression plans for athletes from introductory programs to competitive travel and potentially beyond.
- Build relationships with parents, athletes, coaches, and community organizations; communicate regularly about schedules, expectations, fees, and policies.
- Ensure compliance with YMCA child protection policies, facility safety standards, tournament and travel regulations.
- Serve as a visible presence at practices, games, tournaments and club events; be a positive ambassador for the Y and the volleyball program.
- Collaborate with the Youth Sports team and other YMCA departments to cross-promote programs, support membership growth, and optimize facility usage.
- Maintain program documentation: rosters, tryout results, tournament outcomes, participant feedback, incident reports, performance metrics.
- Promote the program within the community to recruit athletes, coaches and sponsors (if applicable) and work toward growth goals for the club.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of volleyball coaching experience (preferably at club or competitive level) OR equivalent combination of coaching/travel team management experience.
- Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills – able to manage multiple teams, schedules, travel logistics and stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and travel as required (tournaments may include day trips and overnight travel).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to travel in-state with teams.
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification (or able to obtain within 30 days of hire).

Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education, or related field. (YMCA)
- Experience managing youth/adult sports programs, budget oversight, staff supervision. (YMCA)
- Experience with volleyball scoring/analytics, NCAA/AAU rules, strength & conditioning for youth athletes.
- Experience with club marketing, recruitment and parent communications
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move for long periods during practices, games and tournaments; may involve lifting or moving equipment and setting up courts.
- Travel required: local and in-state tournaments; some overnight stays possible.
- Flexible schedule required: many events occur evenings and weekends.
- Must uphold safe practices, follow YMCA risk management protocols, and address emergencies when needed
