Job Summary
The City of St. Peters is seeking a dedicated and dependable Corrections Officer to help ensure the safety, security, and well-being of individuals within our detention facility. In this vital public safety role, you'll manage prisoner booking and detention, maintain facility security, and respond to a variety of situations with professionalism and sound judgment. This position operates under general direction and requires strong decision-making skills, discretion, and a commitment to upholding City and departmental standards.
Shift: Rotating schedule across three shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and Care for Detainees: Oversee booking, detention, and supervision of prisoners while ensuring safety and humane treatment.
- Maintain Facility Security: Conduct regular inspections and uphold security procedures to ensure a safe environment for staff and detainees.
- Support Department Operations: Implement policies, maintain detailed records, and assist with compliance and reporting.
- Respond to Emergencies: Provide timely assistance during medical or security incidents and effectively manage critical situations.
- Problem-Solve and Adapt: Use judgment and initiative to resolve challenges and support smooth facility operations.
Minimum Requirements
- S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Missouri driver's license.
- Must obtain certification in First Aid/CPR within six (6) months of hire.
- Must become certified as an authorized user by Regional Justice Information Service and Missouri Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) /Livescan within six (6) months of hire.
- Must comply with department appearance standards (no visible tattoos while wearing a long-sleeved uniform shirt and open collar; optional arm sleeve permitted).
