We are seeking a talented individual to join our Legal, Compliance & Public Affairs team at Marsh McLennan. This role will be based in New York and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.
As a Paralegal supporting the Employment team, you will support several attorneys by managing a variety of employment matters, often involving sensitive issues impacting colleagues. The role requires interaction not only with in-house attorneys but also co-ordination with business units and key stakeholders, including those outside Marsh McLennan.
We will count on you to:
- Support the global in-house employment law team by drafting, reviewing, and managing sophisticated employment-related documents, including employment agreements, correspondence, restrictive covenant agreements, policies, handbooks, severance and settlement agreements, position statements, litigation documents, and internal compliance and guidance materials.
- Actively assist in internal investigations and eDiscovery, including instituting and monitoring legal holds, managing and tracking data collection through internal and external resources, and participating in document review. Be proficient with Relativity and/or other legal technology platforms.
- Conduct legal research on employment laws, regulations, and case precedents, to inform company policies and legal strategies, draft and communicate legal developments to Employment team and internal stakeholders including senior leaders.
- Coordinate with other internal LCPA lawyers, business professionals including senior leaders, outside counsel, vendors, and other parties to support litigation and other legal inquiries, including the collection and review of information to respond to subpoena requests, discovery, administrative charges and other litigation.
- Independently use and keep abreast of emerging technology platforms including AI tools to enhance the team’s efficiency.
- Draft form documents and templates, make recommendations regarding standardized and best practices to facilitate processes, procedures and policies.
- Prepare engaging presentations and training materials, draft and edit reports, and engage in multi-jurisdictional projects.
- Support the wider LCPA team with internal projects and initiatives.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum 2 years of paralegal experience, preferably within an in-house legal department or law firm with some focus on employment law.
- Strong understanding of and interest in employment law, HR practices, and litigation processes, and a demonstrated eagerness to learn and develop.
- Experience handling and understanding complex and confidential documents with discretion and accuracy.
- Skilled in drafting and managing legal documents and correspondence.
- Excellent data management, technical project management skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to manage expectations well.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint), document management tools, Relativity and/or other e-discovery review platforms.
- Effectively able to prioritise work by understanding competing demands and making appropriate judgments regarding relative importance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with internal teams and external counsel.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and confident in taking ownership of assignments.
- Flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
