Schedule 12:00 a.m. (give or take an hour, flexible) – 8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday  

Compensation Pay depends on experience and certification. Shift Differential: Standard HT – any hours worked before 4:00 a.m. receive an additional $2/hour. 

• Certified technicians with 1–3 years of experience: $30–$34/hour 
• Experienced techs (5+ years): $35–$38/hour

General Technical Duties 

• Embedding: Embed tissues of varying size and type at a consistent and steady pace. 
• Microtomy: Cut biopsies, excisions, decalcified tissue, and large fatty tissues at a consistent and steady pace with sections adequate for pathologist evaluation. 
• Staining: Perform H&E staining and special stains using Celligent Diagnostics methods. 
• IHC/ISH: Perform immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, demonstrating a strong understanding of the mechanics and assisting in research and development of new antibodies and probes. 
• Tissue Processing: Perform tissue processing according to CLIA 88 guidelines. 
• Tissue Accessioning & Setup: Set specimens in numerical order, ensure accurate numbering and double-checking for patient safety. 
• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve basic technical issues as needed. 
• Microscopy: Operate a microscope and assess slide adequacy and accuracy. 
• CAP Inspection: Participate in ongoing CAP compliance programs and assist in developing and maintaining policies and procedures. 
• Workflow: Follow established workflow guidelines and adapt as needed to meet courier route deadlines. 

Record-Keeping and Clerical Duties 

• Manage patient demographics (Sunquest) 
• Handle specimen accessioning (Copath) 
• Print cassettes and slides (Shurmark system) 
• Use electronic tracking (Gajema) and document retrieval (Paperflow) 
• Maintain quality control documentation 
• File blocks, slides, and paperwork for retrieval 
• Manage inventory and reorder supplies as needed 

Additional Job Duties 

• Maintain professionalism and a customer-oriented mindset. 
• Communicate effectively with pathologists and team members. 
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the histology supervisor. 
• Ensure compliance with all regulations and accreditation standards. 

Education and Training Requirements 

• High school diploma required 
• HT/HTL certification required 
• Minimum two years of relevant experience required 
• QIHC is a plus
