Job Description


Title: Sterile Processing Technician

Location: 555 MidTowne NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 (Candidates must live in Michigan or plan to relocate.)

Hours: Part-ime - Shifts will vary dependent on the week/patient schedule, so candidates must have open flexibility between 6:30AM-630PM, Monday-Friday. Open to 3 10's or 3 8's.

Work Environment: On Site

Position Summary

As a Sterile Processing Technician at our Surgery Center, you will be responsible for ensuring that all instruments are properly sterilizes and available in a timely manner for all procedures. You will also perform required testing done in the sterile processing unit and accurately document the results in order to ensure that all instruments and equipment are compliant with sterility regulations. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment will help to ensure your success in this role.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Sterilize all surgical instruments needed for procedures in a timely manner.
  • Package and prep instruments for sterilization according to count sheets.
  • Write new tray lists and maintain accuracy of current ones.
  • Inspect all instruments for good working condition.
  • Check and replace damaged instruments. Update OR and Materials Managers of any instruments that are not available for use.
  • Inventory stock and non-stock supplies and implants. Maintain the appropriate par levels and orders while adhering to cost containment practices.
  • Maintain proper storage of sterilized instruments.
  • Clean autoclave according to established standards.
  • Monitor biologicals on autoclaves and document the results properly. Alert the OR Coordinator and Clinical Manager immediately if there is any deviation from normal stats.
  • Organize and maintain all proper documentation on the cleaning and testing of instruments and autoclaves.
  • Assist in pulling instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
  • Help with room turnovers as needed.
  • Utilize One Source resources on Manufacture IFU.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and comply with QI and Adverse Incident Reporting.

 

Required & Preferred Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Required:
    1. High School Diploma/GED.
    2. 1+ years of experience working in sterile processing.
  • Preferred:
    1. 1+ years of experience in a surgical setting.
    2. Successful completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Technician course.

Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current AAMI standards State of Michigan licensure requirements.
  • Proficient in proper usage of the instrument washer, autoclaves, and other equipment; as well as knowledge of what instruments belong in each set.
  • Knowledge of sterile or aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain detail-oriented in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong sense of self-motivation and high moral guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a team.

Motor, Sensory, and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern surgical equipment.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting (of up to 100lbs), and reaching required.
  • Normal or correctable range of hearing and eyesight.
