Position Summary
The Ministry Director is a qualified lay person (or deacon) entrusted with pastoral leadership in a parish. Specifically, the Ministry Director provides spiritual and organizational leadership for the parish, ensuring that all parish ministries – particularly evangelization and worship – are operating in concert and at the service of the vision of parish renewal laid out by Renew My Church. This position provides supervisory support to all lay ministry staff and governance support to the pastor, overseeing and realizing a mature, unified parish and orienting all aspects of parish life and culture toward mission.
Responsibilities
- Leads all parish ministry efforts through prioritization and implementation of the archdiocesan vision for spiritual renewal and mission
- Manages all lay ministry staff members
- Collaborates closely with the pastor and operations director to align on key priorities and acute needs
- Aligns all existing ministry toward a missional culture
- Directs parish leadership team meetings and parish staff meetings, setting the agenda and ensuring communication of and accountability on all decision items
- Ensures that the Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Finance Councils works in service of the mission of the parish
- Oversees the visioning, development and implementation of parish evangelization efforts, collaborating with the Office for Parish Renewal and other parishes to build a culture of evangelization at the parish
- Directly supports the lay leader(s) in the area of evangelization and oversees the Evangelization Team
- Collaborates with pastor, clergy, and director of liturgy or music to ensure the integration of the core elements of parish renewal into the liturgical and sacramental life of the community.
- Delegates liturgical planning and implementation as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Practicing Catholic with understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values.
- Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies, Theology, Faith Formation or equivalent professional experience.
- Five or more years’ experience in a parish leadership role that demonstrates ability to engage key staff members and volunteers in a process of team building, unification, and evangelization.
- Developed skills in leadership and management; strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
- Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of inclusion and to engender a spirit of hospitality and welcome.
- Ability to direct the work of other staff and volunteers to drive key initiatives and programs.
- Awareness of and commitment to the Archdiocese of Chicago’s vision of spiritual renewal
- Mature discipleship evidenced in ability to comfortably witness to one’s own faith journey.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, faithful, joyful witness, persistent, available, fair and balanced, dependable, person of integrity, sensitive to cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity
- Ability to deal with multiple projects, flexible, sound judgment, and comfortable with change.

This position has a salary range of $76,238.41 - $99,200. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs
