The Director of Circulatory Support & Transplant provides comprehensive leadership for advanced cardiovascular and transplant programs, with a focus on strategic planning and program development across UC Health (all sites). Oversees the execution of multi-year objectives across Perfusion, ECMO, VADs, and solid organ transplant services. Collaborates with executive and clinical leaders to enhance patient-centered care, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability. Champions multidisciplinary care models and fosters cross-departmental collaboration across diverse care settings.

Responsibilities

Clinical Operations & Patient Care - 20%

  • Maintain 24-hour leadership and accountability for the overall clinical operations for Perfusion, ECMO, LVADs, and Transplant services including patient care/clinics, quality of care/safety, patient experience, financial performance, and strategic growth. 
  • Oversight of direct transplant and MCS operations, covering patient care workflows, staffing, quality assurance, safety, improvement initiatives, and the coordination of administrative support services. 
  • Ensures full compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, UNOS/OPTN policies, and SRTR reporting requirements.
  • Maintains continuous survey readiness for CMS, UNOS, and other accrediting bodies through policy adherence, documentation, and data validation.
  • Provides oversight and advice to clinical practices, working with Department Chairs, EDBAs, Medical Directors, and the clinical management team in the strategic and operational activities throughout the system. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (Medical Director of MCS/Heart Failure, Medical Director of ECMO, Perioperative Leadership Team, Transplant, Surgical Oncology, Trauma, Orthopedic, Cardiology, Anesthesia, and more) to expand access and improve treatment for a diverse patient population.

Access, Capacity, & Growth Initiatives - 20%

  • Collaborate with Intra/Interdepartmental Administrators, Physicians, Managers and Staff to develop and grow treatment options for patients.
  • Lead efforts to optimize patient access and service line capacity using innovative tools and best practices, meeting or exceeding annual volume targets for both transplant and MCS services.
  • Implement triage and care coordination systems to enhance the patient experience and promote system-wide integration.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Mobile Care department to facilitate transportation of ECMO patients needing cardiac or respiratory care. 

Financial Oversight & Resource Management - 20%

  • Collaborate on the development and management of operating and capital budgets for both service lines, ensuring fiscal excellence and resource optimization.
  • Oversee medical equipment inventory, patient billing and charge audits, and cost containment strategies for perfusion and transplant services.
  • Manage fiscal resources and budgets for cost centers across UCMC and WCH. 
  • Utilize a system perspective to develop new and/or innovative approaches to optimize business results. 

Administrative - 10%

  • Maintain job descriptions, participate in recruitment, hiring, and on-board new staff.
  • Maintain departmental policies and procedural protocols 
  • Establish standards of performance for unit staff, providing counseling and/or discipline where indicated.
  • Complete staff performance evaluations and provide feedback. 
  • Develops and executes corrective action plans when metrics or audits identify performance gaps.
  • Plan, delegate, and organize work assignments and special projects with staff. 

Professional Development & Success Planning - 10%

  • Champion the development of staff within perfusion, transplant, and allied services, ensuring continuous professional growth, succession planning, and adherence to best practices.
  • Organize and conduct training and in-services as needed. 

Quality Assurance & Improvement - 10%

  • Lead change management initiatives to standardize and transform care while modeling PRIIDE values and promoting a culture of inclusion and excellence.
  • Leads the Transplant Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program to monitor patient/graft outcomes, waitlist mortality, and compliance indicators.

Outreach & Growth- 5%

  • Maintain community presence for MCS and Transplant; build and manage relationships with key transplant stakeholders and support groups.

Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

Qualifications

Required - Bachelor's Degree(Health Administration, Health Sciences or Nursing), BLS within 6 months or hire, 3-5 years of equivalent experience.

Preferred - Master's Degree, ABCP, RRT/NRBC, CNOR, ASPAN, CPAN, CNOR, or FACHE.
