Purpose of the Position

The Engineering Lab Technician performs assembly, testing, qualification report writing, and troubleshooting of prototype sensors and instruments. 

Main Tasks

• Assembles and tests prototype electronics, sensors and instruments, providing feedback from the build to the project engineer
• Assembles and tests customer specific “special” products as required
• Aids in the efficient transition fabrication from the Engineering Lab to Production in a timely manner
• Conducts Engineering tests, qualifications and evaluations
• Assists in the development of fixtures for production assembly and test
• Reviews engineering documentation
• Evaluates improvements in materials and assembly methods
• Performs analysis and review of test results and reports to the Team Leader
• Provides assembly support for production floor as needed
• Complete Qualification reports
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements Profile

• High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred; combination of education, training and experience
• Two to five years of experience in assembly and testing of electronic equipment
• Experience in assembly, testing and troubleshooting of piezoelectric instruments and electronic devices including a thorough understanding of the operation of electrical circuits and components preferred
• Ability to use and working knowledge of various test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, voltmeters, etc.
• Ability to read schematics and mechanical assembly drawings, and product definitions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong mathematical skills
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Experience in problem identification and corrective action
• Ability to interact with other functional departments
• Skill in working as a team member on development projects
• Physical requirements: Ability to use a computer/phone 15% of work day; sit at a desk or workbench 90% of work day.  Ability to work under a binocular microscope for extended periods of time.
• Up to 5% international travel
