Purpose of the Position
The Engineering Lab Technician performs assembly, testing, qualification report writing, and troubleshooting of prototype sensors and instruments.
Main Tasks
- Assembles and tests prototype electronics, sensors and instruments, providing feedback from the build to the project engineer
- Assembles and tests customer specific “special” products as required
- Aids in the efficient transition fabrication from the Engineering Lab to Production in a timely manner
- Conducts Engineering tests, qualifications and evaluations
- Assists in the development of fixtures for production assembly and test
- Reviews engineering documentation
- Evaluates improvements in materials and assembly methods
- Performs analysis and review of test results and reports to the Team Leader
- Provides assembly support for production floor as needed
- Complete Qualification reports
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Profile
- High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred; combination of education, training and experience
- Two to five years of experience in assembly and testing of electronic equipment
- Experience in assembly, testing and troubleshooting of piezoelectric instruments and electronic devices including a thorough understanding of the operation of electrical circuits and components preferred
- Ability to use and working knowledge of various test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, voltmeters, etc.
- Ability to read schematics and mechanical assembly drawings, and product definitions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong mathematical skills
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience in problem identification and corrective action
- Ability to interact with other functional departments
- Skill in working as a team member on development projects
- Physical requirements: Ability to use a computer/phone 15% of work day; sit at a desk or workbench 90% of work day. Ability to work under a binocular microscope for extended periods of time.
- Up to 5% international travel
