Key areas of responsibility
- Supporting the delivery of safety engineering work packages, using appropriate tools and frameworks (e.g. JIRA, risk registers, hazard logs).
- Assisting in the implementation of safety engineering methodologies, including FMEA, HAZID, and GSN.
- Contributing to safety documentation (Safety Management Plans, Safety Case Reports, Compliance Reviews) ensuring deliverables are clear, complete, and aligned with project milestones.
- Helping to maintain assurance artefacts such as evidence sets, hazard logs, risk registers, legislation compliance assessments and hazardous materials registers.
- Supporting assurance reviews, audits, and compliance checks across multiple projects.
- Engaging with both external and internal teams to ensure consistent, high-quality safety practices.
- Actively pursue professional development to progress towards senior assurance responsibilities.
Key skills, experience and behaviours
- A background in an engineering, technical or scientific discipline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work proactively and autonomously towards agreed deadlines.
- Experience of adopting new IT tools and proficiency in using Microsoft Office.
- Attention to detail, critical analysis and problem-solving abilities.
- Awareness of a typical safety engineering lifecycle (e.g. DEF-STAN 00-56, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, ARP4754A)
- Experience (academic or practical) in hazard identification and risk analysis techniques.
- Experience working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Awareness of environmental or quality management systems.
- Familiarity with government or defence engineering practices.
- A pragmatic and common-sense approach.
- A customer- and user-focused mindset with excellent communication skills.
- A desire to learn continuously and develop across multiple assurance domains, flexible to business-needs.
- The confidence working independently as well as part of a team.
