This role will oversee pre-analytic specimen and waste stream management, including specimen accessioning, processing, sterilization, and handling., with additional duties in reference laboratory specimen management as required, and requires flexibility for overtime to fulfill departmental goals.
Position will work M-F from 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and will rotate coverage for weekends and holidays.
Job Responsibilities:
- Independently perform pre-analytic and post-analytic activities (e.g., sterile processing of specimens and other support processes)
- Resolve problems with minimal assistance and provide assistance to others in the laboratory as needed.
- Independently execute activities within own area (e.g., requisitioning and processing specimens for reference laboratories, data retrieval, reporting, preparation of files, waste stream management, and planning of inventory).
- Assist with ongoing quality control, equipment maintenance and compliance tracking and related activities, and report problems to testing/supervisory personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate's degree preferred.
Minimum Experience:
- 4+ years of experience in a clinical lab with a High School Diploma.
- Experience Exception: 2+ years of experience in a clinical lab with an Associate’s degree.
- Prior experience in laboratory procedures and principles (e.g., cleaning and sterilization of laboratory materials, pre-analytic and post-analytic assistance, equipment operation and maintenance) preferred.
- Experience working with laboratory personnel, understanding technical language, and supporting lab needs preferred.
- Proven performance in earlier role/ comparable role.

- Current Hazardous Goods Shipping (HAZGOODS) required within 3 months of starting position.

- Monitors patient status, laboratory results/ findings and promptly responds to new information and changing patient care priorities.
- Explores optimal solutions for patient needs with a focus on seamless hand-offs with other patient care teams.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
