Hudson Institute seeks a research associate to support the policy research program of Hudson Institute’s Keystone Defense Initiative (KDI). Responsibilities include research, writing, editing, program management, and administrative assistance. This is a full-time position based out of Hudson’s Washington, DC office, reporting to Senior Fellow and KDI Director Rebeccah Heinrichs.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts high-quality research and analysis on the KDI’s policy areas, including nuclear posture and strategic deterrence, nuclear policy, nonproliferation, defense strategy, and related US national security issues. 
  • Assists in drafting and editing op-eds, white papers, policy reports, policy memos, journal essays, Congressional testimony, and the monthly Keystone Defense Initiative newsletter.
  • Prepares research memos and background materials for meetings, media appearances, and other engagements by the KDI Director. 
  • Works collaboratively with the KDI Director to turn ideas and research into polished final drafts, providing substantive editing and refinement of materials. 
  • Helps manage the daily events and activities associated with KDI's policy program, including maintaining a repository of key target audiences, and organizing meetings and events with allied country delegations and embassies, Capitol Hill staff, fellow policy analysts, and Hudson Institute colleagues.
  • Drafts, sends, and tracks invitations for Hudson Institute events and meetings related to KDI activities. 
  • Distributes KDI work and scholarship through email, social media platforms, and in-person meetings to maximize policy impact.
  • Helps to manage interns that work with the KDI, including interviewing interns, managing their ongoing workload, and providing feedback and general supervision. 
  • Collaborates with other Hudson Institute colleagues on various projects and objectives, as new priorities develop.

Requirements
