This position is responsible for preparing accounting information to assist in the production of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the university. This position ensures that financial data is timely and accurate with a structured monthly close process and in conjunction with ongoing systems innovation and improvement.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Accounting & Reporting
Prepare monthly reconciliation of University Balance Sheet accounts
Manage Fixed Asset process
Prepare monthly Journal Entries
Assist with financial statements, annual financial reports, audit activities, and other reports and requests
Manage Escheat process and maintain timely Escheat check reporting
Assist with daily batch posting and processing
Respond timely to all accounting related inquiries
Other duties as assigned by the Controller
Process Improvement & Technology
Maintain continued process improvement utilizing technology
Maintain expert level efficiency in Workday software
Aid in research of system issues and assist in testing and training on updates from software releases
Champion paperless and automated workflows
Compliance & Professional Conduct
Regular, predictable attendance on campus
Alignment with University mission, vision, and strategic roadmap
Assistance in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting
Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public
Ensure that all activities are conducted within the established University policies, FERPA guidelines, and other applicable laws pertaining to employment and education
Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe and efficient manner and with minimal supervision
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of department and university policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work-related questions; and/or interpret and apply these guidelines correctly in various situations
Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Ability to manage multiple projects and work under time pressures to meet established deadlines
Ability to handle confidential material appropriately
Ability to work effectively in a busy environment with frequent interruptions
Experience working in Microsoft and Google suite preferred
ERP experience required, experience with Workday software preferred
Excellent customer service skills
Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate reporting
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business with concentration in Accounting required
Accounting experience required, prefer 3 or more years of related experience
